Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced a handful of tougher fines and regulations for protestors in the city leading up to next spring’s NATO and G8 summit, and he recently said they would be permanent.
The new regulations would double the maximum fine for resisting or obstructing a police officer to $1,000, and up the minimum to $200 from $25, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Amplified sound and music would also only be allowed between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., and parks would also not open until 6 a.m., two hours later than the current open time.
Emanuel initially called the new regulations temporary, but recently recanted and called them permanent, the Tribune reported.
