Lincoln Park counts

Letter to the editor

01/04/2012

Lincoln Park is a valuable part of our city and residents here pay significant property taxes to support the City of Chicago. It's very disappointing that recent developments concerning the remapping of Chicago's Ward boundaries place an unfair burden on the people of Lincoln Park. New Ward boundaries could tear apart the fabric of well-established neighborhoods, all a result of old-style political jockeying.

Lincoln Park remap looks like chewed-up gum

Letter to the editor

01/04/2012

I am concerned that the two proposed remaps will divide the Lincoln Park community into three or five wards for the first time in history and do not respect our community's long time heritage.

Don't carve up Lincoln Park

Letter to the editor

01/04/2012

I am completely opposed to the proposed remap of the 43rd Ward. It is a cynical attempt to scramble the cohesion of a community that has chosen to elect an independent alderman and would break us up into four separate wards, making community planning a chaos.

What will it take for Streeterville residents to recognize that an important example of Chicago’s architectural heritage is at risk in their own backyard?

Come pray for World AIDS day

Letter to the editor

11/30/2011

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for our City and Church to pause and remember those who live with, and have died of AIDS. Letter to the editor

11/02/2011

I have always believed that adopted children were very special to God, as he gave us two loving mothers. One gave us life and the other nurtured us, loved us like no other and shaped us. We would not be who we are today without both of these angels.

Speed enforcement cameras will make Chicago streets safer

Letter to the editor

10/26/2011

As pedestrian and cyclist safety advocates, the Active Transportation Alliance supports state legislation that would allow the city of Chicago to use cameras to enforce speed limits in safety zones around schools and parks. This initiative is a way to make our streets safer, particularly for vulnerable road users like pedestrians and bicyclists who do not have the protection of an air bag, seat belt or steel frame.

Cheer marathon runners this weekend in Chicago

Letter to the editor

10/05/2011

The Chicago Marathon on Oct. 9 is among the world's premiere running races. Its 45,000 entrants, from 100 countries, deserve all the support we can get out there to give them. It is possibly the only international sporting event in which ardent, inexperienced athletes can participate, and compete, in the same setting as do the world famous, elite racers.

Keep the streets safe, mayor

Letter to the editor

06/08/2011

Mayor Emanuel’s primary task (the first one of all effective group leaders and mothers) is to provide for the safety of his charges. Yes, more important than money matters or anything else! Only failed, misguided, or diabolical leaders ignore the universality of this precept.

Royally offensive

Letter to the editor

06/01/2011

I found Ann Gerber’s tabloid-like comments about Queen Elizabeth (May 26, 2011) tasteless and unbefitting of a serious newspaper publication. In an age where women are more and more self-conscious of their body images, I thought it irresponsible and unsympathetic to refer to Her Majesty as someone who used to be a “beautiful young woman” but now is “dumpy, frumpy, (and) lumpy.”
