Christian Mitchell

The race for the 26th District seat in the Illinois House is perhaps the tightest in the state. Thats not without reason: Christian Mitchell and Kenny Johnson are two of the best candidates weve seen angling for the statehouse this election season.

Unfortunately, they happen to be running against each other, and so we have to pick one of them.

We think Christian Mitchell is the best candidate for the job.

At only 25, hes young, but hes got political experience beyond his years. Hes already written two pieces of successfully passed legislation. Hes worked in the campaigns of two other upstanding politicians (Attorney General Lisa Madigan and 4th Ward Ald. Will Burns) and worked on the staff of our exceedingly sharp Cook County Board president, Toni Preckwinkle.

Most importantly, hes incredibly sharp on the issues. Hes strong in his convictions and he speaks with authority.

His opponent, Kenny Johnson, has a political background as well, having worked for Jesse Jackson Jr.s campaign some years ago. Hes since started his own business, a PR company. His campaign is mostly business-focused and he has some fine ideas. Though were not endorsing him in this race we hope he runs for something else soon.

Why would anyone support a 25-year-old kid for state rep? He has no life experience and would be a terrible choice. Then again, so would Kenny Johnson. Is there another candidate?

Another community organizer is not what we need here. She need experienced men and women not picked from the tree of Chicago Politics. But that sounds like what we are getting in Phillips, more Obama 2.0 how is that working with massive deficits. so much for fixing pension scams.

With less than a week away from the primary election the gloves are off. Checkout the Kenny Johnson "tax dodger" website. www.kennythetaxdodger.com

I will vote "NO" to Kenny Johnson as representative for 26th District of Illinois. He's a liar, a bad businessman and cant be trusted. Through his various nightclub and party promoter endeavors, he owes corporations, small businesses, and entrepreneurs. Its clear that many other people feel the same way as he lost this race to Will Burns 2 years ago along with losing when he ran for Alderman some years ago. Kenny Johnson should not be elected for any position in the city of Chicago.

Dear Please: If you are making the argument that Christian Mitchell is not the best possible candidate we can find for state rep, then I agree with you. But let's be honest, neither is Kenny Johnson! As far as Chicago and its corrupt politics is concerned, Christian and Kenny are about the best choices you are going to get. My question though is why no Republican is running? But I guess I answered my own question above!

Dear Journal, why don't you report the legistation and results that Mitchell actually wrote? A little fact checking will tell you of the rampent corruption in the programs he was involved in. This kid is an idiot.

Did you see that idiot Christian Mitchell\'s commercials about give free stuff to be \"Fair\"? Good god this guy would do anything legal, but \"Fair\"? Aren\'t we already tired of the Obama theft of trillions? Just ask Mitchell how he helped an energy program that was considered the worst run grant program bilk millions out of taxpayer money. I can\'t believe the Journal Board is this blind. Mitchell is a politician who is both inexperienced and dumb as a rock. A lethal combination.

I think Kenny Johnson is a nice man and might very well make a great state rep, but his support from and of the Jesse Jackson clan is a huge concern for me. Not sure I could ever vote for him. +++++++++ "Shakedown: Exposing the Real Jesse Jackson" via http://www.regnery.com/regnery/020308_shakedown.html

Maybe the Kenny Johnson (tax cheat?) situation, along with the bribery arrest of Derrick Smith, should also reflect badly on the politicians who endorse these (corrupt?) people! For example, flip-flopping (doesn't keep his word, takes dirty money from developers) Alderman Bob Fioretti endorsed both Johnson and Smith. So now I'm wondering if Mr. Flip-Flop (I still want to be mayor but will be lucky to stay as alderman) Bob will issue a retraction? My guess is that he'll just stay silent!

As reported on NBC 5, Kenny Johnson has failed to pay more than $150,000 in state and federal taxes, while spending $350,000 to self-finance three campaigns in five years. Kenny Johnson is also running a smear campaign. His recent wave of attacks on candidate Christian Mitchell are misleading and false accusations. I do not endorse such politicians who run negative ads. But it's not surprising seeing that he's backed by good friend Jesse Jackson Jr.

Kenny Johnson doesn't even live in the district. If by community activist you mean he's sat on the boards of community organizations then yes, he's an activist. If, on the other hand, you mean someone who's made his community a better place, you probably want the guy who worked as a community organizer and passed two pieces of legislation.

Your analysis here is insipid. You say Kenny is a great candidate and you hope he runs for another office soon, but endorse Mitchell. Kenny is in his 40s and this is his third run for office. Mitchell is 25 and has never run before. Kenny lives in the area and has been a community minded activist for many years. No one knows if Mitchell has ever stepped foot in the S. Loop. You got this 1 wrong.
