Gerber wrong on Reagan

Ann Gerber may have earned an honorary degree in Gossip Journalism, but she sure flunked out of The Cold War 101A.
For her to say (Feb. 3) that President Reagan “didn’t end the cold war” is to deny (1) The Strategic Defense Initiative (“Star Wars”) which he undertook to end the possibility of nuclear war and would have shared with the USSR, (2) the moral impact of his calling the Soviet Union an “evil empire” (it wasn’t?) and (3) imploring Premier Gorbachev “to tear down this wall” (the Berlin Wall). To deny these actions of President Reagan and their impact on ending the Cold War is to deny his role in ending it.
Now that Ms. Gerber has decreed that President Reagan did not end the Cold War, perhaps she’ll detail for us what did end it.
Perhaps it was some luncheon chatter at Ralph Lauren’s. Think so?
