Police officers are asking Lincoln Park residents to take extra precautions following an attempted criminal sexual assault that occurred on August 8.

At 11 a.m. that day, police say a women was entering her apartment building in the 2000 block of N. Sheffield. The offender approached her from behind and pushed her into the building’s vestibule, where he began to attack her and tried to sexually assault the victim. She began fighting him and yelling, and the offender gave up and fled on foot.

Police describe the offender as a white or Hispanic male between 19 and 23 years of age, 5’6” tall and around 190 to 200 pounds. He has a short buzz haircut and was wearing a long white T-shirt, long shorts and dark gym shoes the day of the attack.

In a community alert, officers from the Area 3 detective division, which is investigating the incident, asked that residents stay alert of their surrounding and look behind before entering their apartments. Police say that if residents must walk alone, they not talk on the phone while doing so.

Anyone with information about the August 8 attack should call Area 3 detectives at 312-744-8261.
