Cash robbery

An elderly woman was robbed while in her home on the 2300 block of N. Bosworth by four men at 3:25 p.m. on October 2. The woman, a retired grocery store clerk, told police that the men kicked in her back door and ransacked her apartment, taking $9000 in cash that they found in a vacuum bag.

At around 5 a.m. on Sept. 29, while trying to hail a cab to the airport for a business trip, a man standing in the 2100 block of North Larrabee noticed a white van being driven recklessly down the street.

Close call

Upon returning home on the evening of September 21, a woman living on the 200 block of W. Chicago heard a noise in her kitchen and saw the shadow of a man. The woman called police, and the landlord of the building later found that the burglar bars had been removed from the back window. Nothing was stolen, and officers reported that there were no signs of entry.

Three men robbed a food delivery driver in the 1400 block of North Cleveland on the evening of Sept.18. Upon realizing that he had stopped at the wrong address, the driver noticed the men standing a few houses down.

At around 5:45 p.m. on September 13, a 31-year-old man was sitting outside a teahouse on the 800 block of N. Rush when an unknown male suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt ran up and stole his iPhone, which was sitting on a table.

Police nab armed robber

Police arrested a man suspected of robbing a woman at gunpoint on the 100 block of W. Maple on the evening of September 3. The 21-year old woman and a witness relayed to police that the man, 27, had approached her and stated “Give me your purse or I’ll shoot you,” while pressing the barrel of a silver gun against her stomach.

Police arrested a 50-year old man identified as a suspect in two separate burglaries on the night of August 30. The first break-in, at the office of an ad agency on the 500 block of N. Clark, occurred around 9:30 p.m. Upon entering the premise, the man was spotted by an employee of the firm who was working late that evening.

Tough timing

A 55-year-old woman reported at 3:15 p.m. August 13 a strong-arm robbery in an elevator on the 700 block of N. LaSalle. A man wearing a bright pink shirt reached into the first floor elevator and grabbed a necklace from around the victim’s neck.
