Metal thieves hit landmark

A historic Lincoln Park building was the target of a metal heist last week. A building manager at the Fullerton State Bank Building, 1425 W. Fullerton Ave., told police that someone had illegally entered the building sometime between Aug. 1 and Aug. 7, at which point they removed copper piping, electrical wiring and metal railings from various areas in the building.

Knife-wielding purse robbers

Two women were walking past the Whole Foods at 1550 N. Kingsbury St. at around 2:00 a.m. on July 25 when three men approached them, one wielding a knife. "Give me your purse and all your s***," one of the men stated. The victims handed over their purses, which contained about $50 cash all together.

Phone swiped in bathroom

On the afternoon of July 17, an employee at the Chipotle restaurant at 210 W. North Ave. was exiting the public bathroom when he realized that he had left his phone in the stall. Upon re-entering the bathroom, he found that the phone was missing, and proceeded to question another man who had been the only other person present at the time. The man, later identified as 37-year-old Barry Benton, stated that he had not taken the phone and then fled as the employee searched the bathroom.
