Condo building break-in

A man went to get something out of his storage unit in the basement of his condo building located in the 2000 block of N. Burling Dec. 28 at 9:30 p.m. He discovered someone had entered the area and cut the lock on several storage units. The man found that his $750 Trek bicycle missing. He notified police, but there were no leads on the potential offenders.

Drunk woman robbed

A woman was walking home near the 1300 block of N. Dearborn Dec. 27 at 4:45 a.m. after drinking at a nearby pub. As she approached her apartment, a garden unit in a three flat, a man in a black skull cap, jacket and pants stood behind her. The man grabbed her by the back of her head and slammed it against the door and said, “Open the f— door.” The woman told the offender her purse had been stolen earlier in the night and she didn’t have the keys for the building. The offender then produced a black metal piece of fencing and told her to break the door down. The victim took the fencing and broke a window on the door so they could gain entry. They approached the victim’s unit and the offender attempted to break down the victim’s door with a piece of fencing, but was unsuccessful. He then fled. Police arrived and found the woman outside her unit where she told police she had a restraining order against another tenant in the building and thought the incident might be related. Police toured the area, but could not locate the offender, at which time the victim, who appeared to be highly intoxicated threw a “temper tantrum,” according to the police report, and said, “Why am I even wasting my time with you guys?” before storming off.

Phone thieves escape in cab

A woman was working at a cell phone store on the 100 block of E. Ontario Dec. 26 at 5:20 p.m. when two men entered, one carrying a beat up Armani bag. The man with the bag produced a pair of scissors and started to cut the wires off a demo phone. When the woman confronted the men, they pointed the scissors at her and said, “Back the f— up.” The men left the store with the demo phone and got in to a taxi headed west on Ontario. Police toured the area, but did not locate the offenders.

Stolen iPhone travels south

A woman was using her iPhone at a restaurant located in the 400 block of W. Diversey Dec. 26 at 12:50 p.m. when a man walked by and pulled it from her hand. The offender fled south on Wabash and into a nearby vehicle. The woman used the GPS location device on her phone to track it, and found the phones last stationary location to be 63rd and Carpenter. Police are investigating.

Bar assault, weed bust

A citizen walking near the 1500 block of N. Kingsbury Dec. 26 at 2:33 a.m. flagged down police and told them there was a disturbance nearby. Police drove down the street where several people were yelling at each other. Police broke up the incident and interviewed all the parties. Officers discovered that a man who was not admitted entry to a nearby bar reportedly told the bouncer for the bar, “I gonna come back here and shoot up this place.” Police took the offender into custody and while conducting a protective search discovered a small plastic bag containing a substance suspected as cannabis. The man was arrested.

Car is stolen

A man parked his 1996 Nissan Ultima in the 300 block of W. Armitage Dec. 26 at 5:50 p.m. When he returned to the parking location a few hours later, he discovered the car was missing. Police checked to see if it had been towed. It wasn’t.

Stolen truck located

Police on regular patrol drove through the 1100 block of N. Kingsbury Dec. 26 at 6:46 a.m. and found a commercial truck parked and running in a residential area. They ran a license plate check and found that the truck had been stolen from Holland, Ill. Oct. 11. Police tried to secure the vehicle, but found the lock on it had been pulled out. They called a tow company and notified the title owner that they had recovered the vehicle. No driver returned to the vehicle during the recovery.
