Stick-up in CHA territory

A 51-year-old man was the victim of an armed robbery outside a Chicago Housing Authority property in the early morning of Dec. 15.
The man told police that he was leaving his girlfriend’s house on the 400 block of West Goethe Street at around 4:30 a.m. when two men approached him in a gangway leading out to the street.
The man said that one of the offenders pushed a gun-like object into his back while the other went through his pockets, retrieving a wallet, $60 in cash and a cellphone. The offenders then fled in a northerly direction.
Robber possibly aided in bank hit
Police responding to a call of a robbery in progress at a Chase Bank at 1700 N. Wells St. on the afternoon of Dec. 13 were informed by a teller that a man entered the bank at around 1:30 p.m. and proceeded to hand a note which gave instructions to hand cash in quantities of 50 and 100 dollar bills.
The man said “Hurry up! Give me the money!” and made a gesture indicating that he had a gun in his pocket. He then produced a black plastic bag, which the teller filled with $2,300 in cash and handed it back to him before the offender made his escape, fleeing northbound on Wells Street.
The teller said that the man appeared to have drooled on the counter during the incident, adding that he had traces of dried glue peeling from his hands. Another teller at the bank told police he suspected that a second man may have been involved in the robbery.
That man had been in the building about 20 minutes prior to the incident and was acting strange. The teller said that the man had asked if he could use a computer or if anyone knew the location of the nearest library.
Alleyway mugging
A 30-year-old man was walking on the 500 block of North Franklin Street at 3:00 a.m. on Dec. 18 when three men pulled him into an alley and began beating him.
The victim said that the attackers, one of whom had been waiting in a car, pushed him to the ground and punched him in the face, causing him to black out. After regaining consciousness, the man started walking home when he realized that his wallet, containing $6 in cash and various ID and credit cards, was missing, along with his keys.
Tools stolen from construction site
A worker at a construction site on the 500 block of North Lake Shore Drive told police that someone stole $2,000 worth of tools from a trailer on the site sometime during the early morning of Dec. 15.
The worker stated that the lock on the trailer had been cut during the incident, which possibly occurred sometime between midnight and 8:00 a.m.
Kids grab man’s laptop
While sitting on a bench on the 1200 block of North Clark Street at around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 14, a man said he a teenage boy grabbed his laptop from him while he was distracted by another boy who was passing in front of him.
The man, 60, told police that he tried unsuccessfully to chase the two offenders, both believed to be between 15 and 16 years old, as they ran down Division Street. Upon reporting the incident, the man was told to recontact police if additional information becomes available. The laptop, a Hewlett-Packard, was valued at $1,400.
Thief smashes car window for briefcase
A man told police that his car had been broken into while parked outside of his home on the 400 block of North Willow Street just after midnight on Dec. 15. The man stated that the unknown offender broke the front passenger side window of the car, a 2003 Mercury Sable, and took a briefcase valued at $150 from the vehicle.
