$400K in jewelry allegedly snatched

A man was walking in the 800 block of N. State Dec. 14 at 5:55 p.m. when a man approached and asked him for money. The walker said he had none, at which point the other man snatched a brown paper sack from the walker’s right hand. The offender fled and could not be located. The victim told police the bag contained $400,000 worth of jewelry that he was taking to his store’s vault. The victim says he has appraisals for the stolen items, but did not have them during the police interview.
Woman robbed at gunpoint
A woman was walking home near the 2000 block of N. Lincoln Dec. 13 at 10:45 p.m. when she saw a man in a blue coat with fur around the hood standing on the sidewalk. The man said “Good evening.” The woman passed by the man without saying anything, but he grabbed her and then pulled out a handgun. The offender pushed the woman to the ground and said, “Give me your money.” The woman took out her wallet and began to remove her money when the offender took it along with her cell phone. The offender told the victim to get up and run away which she did. She called police who arrived and toured the area, but did not locate the offender.
Robbery on Dickens
A man was walking in the 800 block of W. Dickens Dec. 13 at 11:15 p.m. when he noticed a man walking towards him. The victim crossed the street to avoid the man. But the man ran up behind the victim and pointed a gun at his face. He said, “Shut the f— up. Where’s the money?” The victim handed his wallet to the offender who said, “Run down the alley and don’t look back.” The offender ran west on Dickens. The victim told police he remembered seeing a suspicious dark blue or black conversion van with tinted windows near the robbery site.
Purse stolen at bar
A female employee for a bar located on the 1600 block of N. Wells found two men hiding in the corner of the basement of the bar near the furnace Dec. 13 at 4:10 p.m. They told the woman they were looking for a restroom, at which time the woman escorted them out of the bar. A little while later, the woman discovered her $150 purse was missing.
Fake valet steals car
A man pulled up to a restaurant located in the 100 block of E. Superior Dec. 13 at 2:29 p.m. Someone who said his name was John approached and asked if the driver would like his vehicle valet parked. The owner said yes and exited his vehicle. The valet drove away and the man went to dine. When he was done, he returned and the valet who’d taken his car was missing. The victim then spoke with the valet manager who confirmed that no valet matching the description of the victim worked there. Police verified that the vehicle had not been towed, but had no leads.
Public storage firm knocked off
A customer of a storage firm located in the 1100 block of N. Wells entered the area where his storage unit is located Dec. 13 at 10:35 a.m. and found more than 30 storage units open, the locks cut off. He notified a site manager who called police. No victims had come forward with a complaint, and the total loss was unknown.
Man battered and robbed
A man was standing near the 800 block of N. Cambridge Dec. 9 at 12:39 a.m. when three men with the nicknames “Rock,” “Maine,” and “Dog” approached him. Rock asked the man for $10. The victim refused and then one of thee men pulled out a baseball bat and started hitting him in the head and torso. The other two men joined in with their hands and fists. The victim said Rock reached in to his front left pants pocket and removed $107 in cash and fled. The victim got up and relocated to a nearby lobby and notified security. They called an ambulance and the victim was transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for bruises to his body. Police could not locate the offenders.
