A 39-year-old man was jumped by a group of men after he left a club on the 300 block of W. Ontario at 1:30 a.m. on November 25. The man, an Oak Brook resident, told police that the five men approached him from behind while he was getting into his car and proceeded to push him to the ground and beat him with closed fists. One of the offenders took the victim’s cell phone before they fled. The man, who was later treated for injuries at Cook County Hospital, said that he did not get a good look at any of the offenders.
iTheft
In the morning of December 5, a man returned to his home on the 1500 block of N. Hudson to find that someone had broke in and stolen nearly $2000 worth of computer equipment, including an iPod and a Kindle. The man told police that he found his roommate’s back door open with more of his possessions packed up and appearing ready to be carried out.
Small time crime
A man had his wallet and cell phone stolen by two men as he was walking home on the 700 block of W. Webster in the early morning of December 5. The offenders grabbed his belongings, which included $20 in cash, before fleeing in an unknown direction. The victim’s cell phone was found a few blocks away.
Safe cracked
Police responded to a commercial alarm call at a restaurant on the 1100 block of W. Webster at around 2:30 a.m. on December 5. Upon arrival, officers and an employee of the Morton Grove-based company found that a hole had been cut in the wall of the kitchen, leading to a safe in the manager’s office. The safe was also cut open from the backside and its contents were strewn about the kitchen floor. At the time of the police call, the employee stated that the only item stolen from the premises was a flat-screen TV, valued at $1,000. It was reported that the restaurant had experienced a similar burglary in late November.
Computers stolen
The owner of a design firm on the 100 block of W. Hubbard told police that several laptop computers had been stolen from her office while she was away during Thanksgiving. The offenders apparently entered the premise by breaking a glass pane in the rear door. They took four laptops, she said, and other computers had been moved but were not stolen. Police ordered a fingerprint search at the scene.
Left open
A 30-year-old woman reported that a flat-screen TV had been stolen from her apartment on the 1000 block of N. Dearborn. The victim told police that she had accidently left her door unlocked when she left for work on the morning of November 30, and that several construction workers were in and out of the building, which was being renovated. A woman next door told police that she saw a man standing outside the victim’s door later that day, but when she approached him to ask what he was doing the suspect fled.
