Police arrested two men who were involved in a fight outside of a Near North Side nightclub in the early hours of Nov. 27.
At around 3 a.m., police responding to a call of a battery in progress arrived at the parking lot of the Crescendo nightclub, 222 W. Ontario St., to find six men engaged in a fight outside of the establishment.
After breaking up the brawl, the officers were informed that the incident began when two of the men, Gilbert K. Shamoun of the 6400 block of North Troy Street and Skokie resident Ronnie Odisho, were denied entrance into the club and subsequently began attacking people outside of the building. Witnesses said that Shamoun, a self-admitted “cage MMA fighter,” struck one man in the face, knocking out five of the victim’s lower teeth.
Odisho and Shamoun, both 24 years old, were taken into custody and transported to the 18th District police station for processing. All of the victims refused medical attention at the scene.
Coat shop burglarized
The manager of the Erehwon Mountain Outfitters clothing outlet at 1000 W. North Ave. told police that thousands of dollars worth of coats were missing from the store following a break in on Nov. 27.
At around 1:15 a.m., police arrived at the shop in response to a commercial burglary alarm call to find that someone had gained entry into the shop by throwing a large rock through the front glass door.
Officers observed jackets on the floor and outside of the shop. The manager told police that as many as 10 coats were missing from the store, totaling a loss of between $2,500 and $3,500.
Attempted theft at steel mill
Albert McGee found himself in cuffs after trying to steal a pipe from a Lincoln Park steel mill.
On the morning of Nov. 25, police arrived at the A. Finkl & Sons steel manufacturing plant at 2008 N. Kingsbury St. in response to a call from a security guard who had cornered a suspected thief at the site.
The guard told police that there had been a number of thefts from the company’s locker room in the past few weeks, prompting security staff to be on the lookout for suspicious individuals.
At around 8 a.m. that day, the guard said he observed 56-year-old McGee, of the first block of West 109th Place, leaving the locker room in a green employee jacket. Not recognizing McGee, the guard followed him into a restricted access building, where he observed the suspect pick up a 50-foot copper-lined hose and exit the area.
The guard then asked McGee for an ID, which he was unable to produce. McGee then dropped the hose and fled through the scrap yard. The guard gave chase and eventually cornered McGee behind a semi truck on a nearby dock, where he held McGee until police arrived and put him into custody.
Taxi cab getaway
On the evening of Nov. 25, a 19-year-old man was walking up the stairs of a building on the first block of East Hubbard Street when an unknown man came up and pushed him.
At the same time, a second offender grabbed the man’s iPhone, and the two got into a taxi cab and departed northbound on Rush Street. Police toured the area but were unable to locate the offenders.
Two nabbed for armed robbery
A 22-year-old woman was standing outside on the 2300 block of North Lincoln Park West on the afternoon of Nov. 24 when a man approached her and asked for directions.
The stranger, later identified as Brandon D. Arnold, of the 6800 block of South Aberdeen Street, then stated “I don’t want anything,” but when the woman began to walk away, he stopped her and said “Give me your camera, or I’ll mace you.”
The victim handed over her camera, at which point he also demanded that she give up her iPhone, to which she also complied.
Arnold and his accomplice, Michael T. Burns, of the same address, who was allegedly serving as a lookout during the robbery, then fled eastbound on Fullerton. The woman followed the men, who promptly dumped the camera and phone in a bush after they spotted a police officer.
The offenders were then detained, and witnesses at the scene positively identified the two men as the perpetrators of the robbery that had just occurred. Another witness told police that the men had attempted to rob him earlier. Both men face pending felony charges.
