Rude awakening

A woman woke up in her house in the 100 block of E. Scott Nov. 22 at 1:10 p.m. and found someone had entered and taken a Macintosh laptop, a Bose Wave radio, a Coach Wallet, miscellaneous pieces of identification and $150.
Bicycling Bonnie and Clyde
A witness noticed a man in dark clothing trying to cut a lock on a bike on the 1200 block of N. Wells Nov. 17 at 3:46 a.m. and called police. When police arrived, they noticed a woman in dark clothing riding a white bike south on Wells near Division. Officers stopped her for a field interview. The woman told police her boyfriend gave her the bike and a black backpack containing several burglary tools. She added that her boyfriend cut the cable off the bike and stole it. She gave police a description of her boyfriend, and police radioed it out to nearby units. Her boyfriend was stopped on the 300 block of W. Oak where he admitted that he’d taken the bike and had thrown the lock away near the 1900 block of N. Sedgwick. Police recovered the lock and transferred both offenders to the 18th District police station for processing.
iPhone stolen
A woman was walking near the 600 block of N. Michigan Nov.17 at 5:30 p.m. checking her iPhone when a man approached, grabbed her hair and right hand, and wrenched away her phone. The man fled into a nearby alley. Police toured the area, but did not find the offender.
Woman robbed at gunpoint
A woman was walking near the 2100 block of N. Cleveland Nov. 19 at 2:42 p.m. when an unknown offender approached from behind, brandished a steel handgun, poked it in her back, and said, “Give me your wallet.” The victim dropped her purse and the offender rifled through it and stole her wallet. He fled north. Police arrived, toured the area, but did not locate the offenders.
Beef stand burgled
The owner of an Italian beef stand located in the 600 block of N. Orleans was standing outside his restaurant Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. talking to an employee when three men walked up and started causing a disturbance. The owner asked the men to leave. One of the men said, “F— off, we will come back and rob you.” When the owner arrived back at work on Nov. 20 he found the rear door of the restaurant kicked in, pried open and both cash registers open. The top right desk drawer in his office was also open and $800 was missing. The owner knew two of the three men who’d argued with him the previous night and provided police with their name and descriptions. Police are investigating.
Mattress catches fire
Police arrived at a house on the 1400 block of N. Cleveland Nov. 18 at 6:46 a.m. to find a house on fire. After investigating, they found that a mattress had caught fire through unknown means. No one was injured, and the Chicago Fire Department was notified.
Burglar leaves beer bottle
A woman returned to her apartment located on the 2100 block of N. Bissell Nov. 21 at 2:41 p.m. and found her rear double glass patio doors forced open. She searched the apartment, found a laptop valued at $1,800 missing, and told police there was also a beer bottle on her floor under the table where the laptop had been, and that it was not hers.
Cold criminal goes after clothes
A security agent for a department store located in the 800 block of N. Michigan told police that he saw a man enter a third floor stockroom that was clearly designated “Private/Employees Only” Nov. 17 at 5:35 p.m. While in the storeroom the man took four handbags, 27 gloves and seven scarves. He put them in a brown paper bag. When the officer approached the offender, the man pushed him and attempted to bite him while fleeing via a fire escape. The security officer eventually detained the offender and secured him until police arrived. Officer took the offender into custody and transported him to the 18th District police station for processing. They also secured video surveillance of the incident for their investigation.
