Close call

Upon returning home on the evening of September 21, a woman living on the 200 block of W. Chicago heard a noise in her kitchen and saw the shadow of a man. The woman called police, and the landlord of the building later found that the burglar bars had been removed from the back window. Nothing was stolen, and officers reported that there were no signs of entry.

Armed robbery

At around 4:15 p.m. on September 20, a man leaving his home on the 0-100 block of E. Pearson was stopped by an unknown suspect who took out a knife and directed him to a nearby ATM. The victim withdrew $60 and gave it to the offender, who then fled.

Cool head

A man was robbed on the 1000 block of N. La Salle in the late evening of September 26. According to the police report, while walking, the man was approached by an unknown male suspect, who stopped him and asked, "My man, where are you going? Do you live around here?" The man replied that he did and kept walking, at which point the offender put up his arm, blocking the victim, and said, "You are done walking. My boy has a gun on you so keep your hands down and don¡¯t say anything to get yourself killed." The man complied and the suspect reached in his pocket and pulled out $3. "Don¡¯t bother making a phone call, it¡¯s just three dollars," the offender said as he walked away.

Burglary

A 43-year old woman told police that someone had broke into her home on the 200 block of W. Scott. The woman said that, in the early morning of September 20, an unknown suspect had climbed through her second story window and stolen an iPod, her ID, debit card, keys and a laptop.

Loose cat

A man living on the 2100 block of N. Seminary woke up in the middle of the night on September 24 to feel a draft coming from the other room. He got up and found that his front door was wide open. He went out into the courtyard to get his cat and went back in. Later, a detective called him and said that police had retrieved his driver¡¯s license and business card. The man then found that his wallet was missing, and upon further investigation found several of his belongings outside in the courtyard, including a bike and two tennis rackets.

Prints left behind

On the evening of September 22, a woman living on the 1100 block of W. Belden found that the screen on her back window had been pried off and damaged, and that there were handprints on the window. The woman contacted police but had to leave for class before officers could arrive.

Two-grand theft

The owner of a home on the 1900 block of N. Halsted, said that her garage had been broken into and that someone had stolen two bicycles, worth $1000 each. The incident occurred sometime between September 19 and 24.

Bike theft

On the morning of Sept 26, a woman found that her garage door had been pried open, causing damage to the frame and lock, and that a bicycle estimated to be worth $500 had been stolen, along with a few other items. The incident occurred on the 1600 block of N. Burling.

Tile cutter

The employee of a nail bar and spa on the 100 block said that an unidentified man had stolen a Skillsaw tile cutter, valued at $150, from the basement of the business on afternoon of September 26. The man told police that he had been working in the basement, and after going upstairs and coming back down he saw that a light had been turned on in the laundry room. The man then caught a glimpse of the offender, who quickly turned the light off. The employee went upstairs to call the police, and when he returned the man and the tile cutter were gone.
