Old Town School of Folk Music robbed

According to employees and video footage, an unidentified man cased and burglarized the Lincoln Park branch of the Old Town School of Folk Music, 909 W. Armitage Ave., on Aug. 22.
Upon opening up the school the following morning, an employee found that a cash register in the store had been removed to a stairway behind the building and emptied of $220 in cash.
Video surveillance from the previous evening showed a man pacing back and forth in the alleyway next to the building at around 11 p.m. The suspect, sporting a shaved head, made his way into the school by unknown means and was recorded climbing into the store after climbing a vending machine.
He then climbed back out with the register and exited the premise, possibly through an unlocked window on the second floor. Responding officers found no signs of forced entry. The man had reportedly been seen in the building on the afternoon preceding the incident but departed after police were contacted. Staff at the school suspected the man of stealing a wallet from a classroom on Aug. 12.
$5,000 watch stolen
A man living on the 1500 block of North Hudson Avenue told police that someone had entered his home on the evening of Aug. 23 and taken a watch valued at $5,000 and $200 in quarters from his room. The victim said that he had left his back door unlocked so that his dog could go out.
Mugged for his jewelry
A 19-year-old man was attacked and robbed by a man on the first block of West Superior Street at around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 29. The man told police that the suspect approached him and began beating him up then robbed him of several pieces of jewelry, including a high school graduation ring.
Nursing home robbed
An employee of a nursing home on the 1100 block of North Orleans Street told police that, on the early morning of Aug. 26, an unknown male suspect took several items from the establishment.
The employee stated that at around 6 a.m. the man entered the building’s recreational area through a basement window and removed a Nintendo Wii, a Sony docking station and a musical keyboard. The man exited through the same window. The stolen items were valued at $550.
Keys, ID stolen on el
On the afternoon of Aug. 25, a group of five young men robbed a 20-year-old Loyola University student at the Chicago Avenue Red Line CTA train station.
While standing on the station platform, the man told police that the group approached him and that one of the offenders tugged at his pockets and took his keys and a school I.D. The student then called the school’s security department and was advised to contact police.
Burglar nabbed, arrested
According to a Chicago Police Department news release, on Aug. 27, officers arrested an offender for burglarizing a residence on the 1000 block of North Dearborn Street.
A victim in the house was investigating noises coming from a back bedroom when she found an unknown male intruder in her home.
“It was later discovered that the offender entered the victim’s residence through a rear window, using the fire escape ladder to gain entry,” according to the report.
Responding officers put out a “flash message” describing the offender, who was found walking in the 100 block of West Division, and the victim “positively identified the offender as the man who unlawfully entered her apartment.”
Police are urging residents to volunteer as a court advocate in this case. “This offender is a career criminal,” the release stated. Anyone interested in getting involved may contact Officer Incaprera in the 18th District Community Policing Office. The offender will appear in court at 9 a.m. on September 2, at Branch 42-2, 2452 W. Belmont Ave.
