A 55-year-old man driving a white Lexus on the 100 block of W. Ontario hit a 1994 Toyota Camry on August 15. While fleeing the scene, Anthony McCoy then allegedly crashed into a 2009 Hyundai on the 500 block of N. Halsted. With his Lexus rendered useless, McCoy allegedly attacked the driver of a nearby Isuzu Rodeo on W. Grand in an attempted carjacking before a nearby cabbie intervened by grabbing the keys from the ignition. Jumping from the Isuzu, McCoy allegedly tried to take an occupied 1998 Corvette. As that driver tried to escape the attack, McCoy hung from the side of the sports car until being tossed by a rapid deceleration, according to a police report. The Good Samaritan cab driver returned to convince McCoy to enter his cab with a promise of driving him anywhere he wished, but then locked him in the cab as police were on the way. Witnesses told police that McCoy kicked out a window in the cab, escaped and failed to hijack a Ford Escort on the 1100 block of W. Hubbard before trying to take a white Mercedes at the corner of Hubbard and Racine. Failing again, McCoy allegedly took a responding officer’s squad car and, in an attempt to flee, ran over a citizen’s leg and injured a cop before another citizen intervened to stop the offender.
