Chevez Welch, Kelley Longstreet, Michael James, Ryan Beals, all 18 years old, were arrested along with three juveniles after witnesses identified the group near Oak Street Beach.
One of the juveniles was also charged with battery after he was accused of hitting a 54-year-old man who was asking for money.
Good Samaritan assaulted
A 40-year-old Chicago man attempted to intervene in an el platform robbery at 2:40 Thursday afternoon, and reported being punched and pushed by a man attempting to steal a woman’s purse.
The victim provided police with a description of the man he said assaulted him on the southbound platform of the Sedgwick Brown Line station. Police then located Darnell Robinson, 19, of the 4300 block of South Langley Avenue, and charged him with battery and attempted robbery.
Computers stolen from home
Police responded to a reported break-in on the 2100 block of North Halsted Street at 8:40 Friday night. The victims, two 25-year-old women, told responding officers that they left their home earlier in the day and returned to find the locks broken, the bedrooms tossed, and two laptop computers stolen.
Reported missing were a 15-inch white HP laptop valued at $1,000 and a Dell computer valued at $900. The victims said the break-in occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
iPhone theft
A 24-year-old Chicago woman reported her iPhone was stolen on a CTA train approaching the Sedgwick Brown Line station at 4:27 Sunday afternoon.
The woman said a man, approximately 20 to 25 years old, grabbed the phone as she was checking her email. The suspect left the train and used the station’s emergency exit to escape. Police were unable to locate the offender.
Early morning assault
A 29-year-old man was assaulted on the 1500 block on North Fremont Street at 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
The man said he was approached by an unknown offender asking for a cigarette as the victim walked to his vehicle. Another offender then emerged from an alley and struck the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.
The offenders then searched the victim, taking his wallet and cell phone, and fled. The wallet contained the victim’s identification, credit cards, $70 cash and an IRS check for $280.
Neighbors report suspicious vehicle, victims report burglary
Thieves stole a number of valuable items from two Lincoln Park women Sunday morning. The two women told police someone broke into their apartment on the 500 block of West Belden Avenue between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday. The first victim told police she returned from the gym to find unknown offenders had entered the garden apartment and stolen the television from the living room.
Upon entering her bedroom, she realized her credit cards, Blackberry phone, powermat charger and two laptops were missing. She told police that thieves had rifled through her drawers and also took a red Casio digital camera.
The second victim reported her iPod was missing. Police said there were no signs of forced entry, and surmise the door was unlocked or the offenders had a key. Neighbors told police a new-model red Cadillac has been seen driving through the area, perhaps casing the neighborhood. There are no suspects at this time.
This summary contains information taken from the crime reports and arrest records of the 18th District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
