Trouble in the zoo bathroom

On July 19, a man visiting the Lincoln Park Zoo entered a bathroom in the tiger house and found three men taking pictures of each other. One of the men took a picture of the man, 54, while he used the bathroom facilities. The man reported the incident to employees at the gift shop, who then called police.

A stolen bike

A man living in the 1800 block of N. Cleveland told police that, upon returning from a sailing trip on the evening of July 18, he found that his garage door was open and his bicycle had been stolen. The man told police that he thought he may have left the door open by accident, and police found no evidence of forced entry.

iThief: caught

Around midnight on July 14, a suspect stole a black iPhone from a 52-year-old man in the 1000 block of N. Rush and then fled. The suspect, estimated to be 22-years-old, was located by police a few blocks away on Lake Shore Drive, visibly out of breath and fitting the description given by the victim and a witness. The man was positively identified but did not appear to have the phone on him. After being arrested he told police that he had put it in a bush on Lake Shore Drive. An officer later recovered the phone, valued at $600.

Slap-‘n-steal

On the evening of July 13, a woman visiting a home in the 300 block of W. Scott was slapped in the face by the son of woman who lived there. The man took the victim’s phone, estimated to be worth $55.

Security busts shoplifter

At 5:30 p.m. on July 19, a security officer at a clothing store in the 500 block of N. Michigan witnessed a young woman shoplifting $39.40 worth of costume jewelry. The suspect put the jewelry in her purse before attempting to walk out of the store. Security apprehended the woman and held her until police arrived.

Stay away from that dude

A man and a woman living in the 600 block of N. McClurg told police that a man in their building had entered their apartment and woke them up in the early morning hours of July 14. The man said that he had told the suspect to go and that he left without incident. The couple said they had had previous run-ins with the suspect, who, a few days before, had injured the man by pushing him into a grill, an injury that required nine stitches. Police were unable to locate the suspect and advised the couple to avoid contact with him.

Fired worker disgruntled

On the morning of July 19, a recently fired employee entered a store where she had previously worked in the 1600 block of N. Wells and said she wanted to discuss her final paycheck. An employee at the store told police that the woman then went into the back of the store and began looking through papers. The employee, a 32-year-old woman, tried to stop the ex-employee, at which point she attacked the employee and pushed her around the store, causing minor scratches on her arms. The woman knocked over various items in the store and left. At this point the employee tried to stop the woman as she got into her car, but had her toe run over as the car drove away.

Alarms not talking to each other

A human resources manager at a company with offices in the 300 block of W. Erie reported a laptop stolen from the office. The man told police that he came to work on July 19 to find the office in disarray and the computer missing. The alarm had gone off on the sixth floor of the building the night before, but no one attended to the scene because the alarm on the ground floor had not gone off.
