While walking on the 200 block of West Division Street on the afternoon of July 18, a 22-year-old man was approached by an unknown man believed to be in his fifties who asked if he was disabled.
The man — an employee of the Clayton Residential Home, an assisted living facility — answered that he was, and the stranger told him to hand over five dollars.
The man then took out his wallet, which contained $17 in cash, and the offender snatched it from him. The victim asked for the wallet back and the man refused and fled. A foot chase ensued, and the two fought several times in a nearby parking lot until the offender agreed to give him back the money before running away.
The man returned to his place of employment and police were contacted. The victim suffered a bruised eye and a swollen hand from the incident.

A conversation, a stolen phone
A Las Vegas man told police that he had a 45-minute conversation with an unknown man on the 400 block of North Wabash Avenue before the man made off with his cellphone after midnight on July 18.
According to police reports, the man asked the victim, 71, if he could use his phone, claiming that his wife would be mad if he didn’t call her.
The man, who had also given the suspect $3, handed over the phone, valued at $300, and then witnessed the offender walk off with it.
Robbery at knifepoint
At around 1:30 a.m. on July 18, a 20-year-old man was walking on the 1200 block of North State Parkway when an unknown suspect came up from behind and held a knife to his shoulder.
The suspect, believed to be between 35 and 45 years old, reached into the victim’s pocket and retrieved $100 in cash. The offender then fled.
Purse pilfered while victims watched TV
On the afternoon of July 17, two women at their home on the 2200 block of North Halsted Street became aware that someone had entered the unit and taken an iPod and the contents of a purse that had been left on the kitchen table.
The victims told police that they had been watching TV when the burglary occurred and said that the front door may have been unlocked at the time.
The women first noticed that the items were missing after the owner of the purse received an email from her credit card company advising her of possible fraudulent charges being made on her account.
Burgled while in bed
A man told police that, while sleeping at his parent’s house on the 200 block of West Willow Street during the early morning of July 17, he awoke to the sounds of someone running down the stairs and through the front door of the home.
Upon investigating, the man found that offender had taken a laptop computer and a smartphone, totaling a value of $2,300. The man’s parents were out of town at the time of the incident.
Don’t say you don’t do drugs
On the evening of July 16, an unidentified young man approached a 49-year-old man on the 400 block of West Chicago Avenue and asked if he did drugs.
The man replied that he didn’t, and the offender punched him in the face. The attacker then reached into the victim’s pocket and removed $50 in cash.
