Beaten, robbed and stabbed

A 39-year-old man suffered a stab wound after a violent encounter with a group of men after midnight on June 23.

The man told police that he was walking in the 100 block of West North Avenue when four men — some of whom were believed to be in their twenties — approached him and demanded that he hand over his possessions. A fight ensued and one of the offenders struck the man, knocking him to the ground.

The group proceeded to beat the man before stealing his T-Mobile cellphone and fleeing. The man went back to his house in the 1400 block of North Sandburg Terrace, at which point he realized that he had been stabbed on his left side.

The victim treated himself and called his brother, then went to bed. Upon waking up and seeing that there was blood all over his bed, the man again called his brother, who in turn called 911.

The victim, who was reported to be intoxicated during the incident, was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Robbed for a ring

An unknown attacker knocked down a man and stole his 2-carat diamond ring in the 900 block of North Cambridge Avenue at 4:40 p.m. on June 26. The man, 49, told police that he only wanted to make the report for insurance purposes. The ring was valued at $2000.

Robber steals bike, leaves shoes

A woman living in the 1700 block of North Orchard Avenue came home from work on the evening of June 24 to find that her garage had been burglarized.

The victim told police that the door to the garage had been opened and that pry marks were visible on the frame. She said that the frame to the gangway door had also been damaged.

The only stolen item listed was a bicycle valued at $500. The offender left a pair of gym shoes at the scene.

Three bikes stolen

Another garage was broken into in the 1600 block of North Hudson Avenue sometime during the morning of June 24. A homeowner told police that she found the side door of her garage open and the overhead door left ajar. Three bicycles were taken from the property, totaling a value of $1100. Officers did not order a fingerprint check because the scene was contaminated.

Fighting a police officer

Deandre “Dre” Green, of the 500 block of West Chestnut Street, was arrested for attacking a police officer after he refused to remove his bicycle from a vestibule at the CTA Chicago Red Line station on the evening of June 24.

Police reported to the scene, at the 800 block of North State Street, on a call that Green, 18, was blocking the escalator to the station with his bike. When ordered to disperse, Green became combative and attempted to strike one of the officers with his right hand.

The officer responded by striking Green in the mid-section, and the offender was apprehended after resisting arrest.

Laptop stolen from office

At around 9 p.m. on June 23, officers were flagged down by the manager of a firm in the 300 block of West Erie Street who said that his business had been burglarized.

The victim had returned from dinner to find that the door to the building was unlocked and that an Apple MacBook Pro laptop had been taken from the premises.

The manager was able to pull up security camera footage that showed two men entering the building and leaving with the computer.

Police found no signs of forced entry at the location.

Cops nab 19 in drug sting

According to a community alert released by the Chicago Police Department, officers from the 18th District and the Narcotics and Gangs Enforcement Units recently completed a narcotics mission at the Marshall Garden Apartments in the 1400 block of North Sedgwick Street.

The department arrested and charged 19 individuals with distribution and possession of controlled substances and seized cash and narcotics during the operation, which was launched in response to concerns aired by residents about violence and drug sales in the area.

According to the alert, released on June 16, police are still looking for five adult offenders and one juvenile offender targeted in the operation.
