Cinematic armed robbery

An employee of the Regal Cinema at 1471 W. Webster Ave. told police that at around 9:00 p.m. on June 1, a man entered the theater and asked to have a twenty dollar bill changed. The employee told the man that he would have to ask his manager for the change, at which point the man pulled out a handgun and said “F*** the manager, give me all the money,” according to the police report. The employee handed over between $400 and $500 and the man fled. Security cameras in the theater’s parking lot were not working at the time but the employee said that video of the offender would be made available. Police later retrieved the suspect’s handgun.
Threatened by a panhandler
Police are on the lookout for a panhandler who threatened an employee at a Bed Bath & Beyond in the 500 block of North State Street. The employee told police that the panhandler was asked to leave the store for being disruptive on the afternoon of June 2. The offender, who regularly hangs around the area, responded by threatening the employee, stating that he was going to “come by at night and kick his a**,” according to the report. Officers toured the area but were unable to locate the offender.
Gang member arrested with gun
On the evening of June 6, a patrolling officer had just dispersed a group of gang members in the 400 block of West Evergreen Avenue when he spotted Raasan “Ray Ray” Mack, a known member of the Mickey Cobras gang, exiting a nearby vehicle with another gang member.As the officer approached him, Mack, 18, dropped a plastic baggy containing a substance later identified as containing 2½ grams of cannabis. A search of the offender revealed a semi-automatic handgun, which Mack said he needed for protection against the Vice Lords, a rival gang that had recently attacked his group. Mack was arrested on one count of unlawfully possessing a handgun.
Late night phone robbery
A 27-year-old man was robbed by two unidentified teenagers in the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue at 2:10 a.m. on June 7. The man later told police that, upon approaching him, one of the offenders repeatedly asked “What you got for me?” while the other teen came up from behind and snatched his phone, valued at $400.The victim grabbed a hat off one of the boys, but was unable to stop them as they ran away.
ATM PIN given at gunpoint
At 2:00 a.m. on June 3, a man who had just lost his wallet was relaying his situation to a stranger in the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue when an unknown man approached him, put a gun to his head and demanded that he give him the PIN number to his ATM card. The man complied and the offender ran off. The victim later found that $200 had been taken out of his account, and an additional $10 had been used to purchase gasoline.
Robbed at gunpoint in garage
On the morning of June 6, two women in a car had just pulled into a garage in the 2300 block of North Janssen Avenue when a man wearing a black hood approached the vehicle brandishing a black handgun. The victims told police that the suspect, described as having a scar on his bottom lip, pointed the gun into the passenger side window of the car and demanded that they hand over their purses and phones.
The driver surrendered her belongings while the passenger dropped her phone in the garage and gave him her purse, telling the offender “Take this, it has money in it.”The man replied “You better not be lying, b*****s.” The offender proceeded to look for the woman’s phone in the front seats of the car. Unable to find it, the man fled. One neighbor stated that he saw a man matching the description of the offender in the alleyway about twenty minutes before the incident.
Phone snatched at nail salon
A doctor who works at Children’s Memorial Hospital told police that she was getting her nails done at a salon in the 400 block of East Grand Avenue when an unknown man, believed to be in his late teens, entered the premise and grabbed her phone, valued at $800.The man, who was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, fled southbound from the building with a group of friends. The victim sustained a scratch on her finger but refused medical attention. The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 2.
