Knocked out and robbed

A man was attacked and robbed in the first block of West Division Street during the early morning of May 28.
After attending a number of bars that previous evening, the man, 27, told police that at around 4:30 a.m. he was approached on the street by two or three men who demanded that he hand over his belongings.
The victim refused and one of the offenders punched him in the face, causing to him to fall. When he came to, the man found that the offenders had cut a hole in his pocket and removed a wallet containing $20 in cash.
They did not, however, take his cell phone and a laptop that he had been carrying at the time. The man suffered a swollen lip but refused medical attention.
Panera vandalized
Employees at a Panera Bread at 2070 N. Clybourn Ave. witnessed two men vandalize the restaurant’s storefront on May 28.
At 3:00 a.m., the unidentified men were seen breaking a front window and spray painted the word “Lincoln” in red paint on another window. The witnesses told police that both men were wearing dark clothes at the time of the incident.
Purse nabbed at grocery
While waiting at the register at a Jewel-Osco grocery store at 1210 N. Clark St. the evening of May 28, a 70-year-old woman realized that her purse was missing.
She later told police that she suspected that the bag, which contained credit cards, was taken by a woman in her thirties who had approached her earlier and asked the victim to hand her some chocolate.
The woman went home and called to cancel the cards, at which point she was notified that an unauthorized purchase of $500 was made on one the cards at a CVS Pharmacy.
Removing a drain cover
On the evening of May 25, a 45-year-old man was in the basement of his home in the 1800 block of North Orchard Street when he became aware that a man was removing the storm drain cover from the basement window.
“What are you doing?” the man asked. The offender then replied, “I was trying to see how these worked,” before running away.
Out-of-towner robbed
Just after midnight May 25 in the 300 block of East Ohio Street, a man from North Carolina was approached by two unknown men who said “Give us your money!”
The victim handed over his wallet, from which the offenders removed $40 in cash and an I.D. card. Police toured the area with negative results.
