Jonathan C. Soto, of Bartlett, Ill., was arrested after he attacked two Chicago Fire Department paramedics who attempted to treat him early the morning of May 21

At around 5:00 a.m., two female paramedics found Soto, 23, lying on the ground “breathing but non-responsive,” according to the police report, in the 300 block of West Institute Place.

After helping him into the ambulance, the medics told police that Soto became violent, biting and kicking them and attempting to strangle one of the paramedics.

The offender ran out of the vehicle but was apprehended shortly after by fire department personnel who had come to assist. Police placed Soto into custody and the paramedics drove themselves to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Good Samaritan pickpocketed

A Good Samaritan was the target of a pickpocket in the 1100 block of North State Street. The victim, a 21-year-old man, discovered his cellphone and work check missing from his person after he came to the aid of a woman who he had witnessed falling on the street at around 5:30 a.m. on May 21.

The man told police that the woman, believed to be between 28 and 33 years of age, had hugged him before getting into a silver four-door car and fleeing.

Burglar nabbed

Police collaborated with residents to track down burglar Nick Frills of the 200 block of South Sacramento Boulevard on the morning of May 17. While patrolling an alley in the 1900 block of North Maud Avenue, an officer observed Frills, 40, attempting to pry open the door of a residence on the street.

Upon being approached by the officer, Frills ran away. Additional officers were called to the area, and after speaking with residents and retrieving a number of tools belonging to the offender, police found Frills hiding in a nearby garage.

Too close to the cats

Police arrested Genesis D. Flores of Romeoville after she tried to get a better view at the Lincoln Park Zoo. On the morning of May 22, an employee at the zoo, at 2250 N. Cannon Drive, reported that Flores, 19, had scaled a barrier fence outside of the Amur leopard cage.

Threatened by a cabbie

While on the way to his wife’s appointment at Northwestern Memorial Hospital the morning of May 21, a man told police that he was accosted by a taxi driver who claimed that the couple had taken too long to cross the street in front of the hospital at 248 E. Erie St.

After a brief exchange, the driver allegedly got out of the car and approached the man with a raised fist, stating that he would “beat the f*** out of him.”

The victim called the police and then took a picture of the maroon cab, at which point the driver again threatened him before driving away.

This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 18th District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
