Chicago police arrested Adrian Villela, 26, and Francisco Carmona, 26, as suspects in an armed robbery case that took place in the Lincoln Park area on May 7.

A 24-year-old woman told officers that as she was walking in the 1900 block of North Lincoln Avenue just after midnight on May 7, two men later identified as Villela and Carmona approached her, produced a handgun and demanded that she hand over her property.

She threw her purse to the men, who fled southbound but were picked up shortly after by officers who matched them to descriptions given by the woman. Officers searching the area later found the victim’s purse, as well as the gun, which contained six rounds of live ammunition. Both offenders are residents of Melrose Park.

Unruly gang member arrested

Guillermo A. Equihua, of Aurora, was arrested on May 8 for attacking a security guard outside a bar in the 100 block of West Ontario Street.

Equihua, 29, was removed from the building at around 1:30 a.m. after reportedly being unruly and when outside he allegedly proceeded to punch the guard in the face.

According to a police report, officers used pepper spray and emergency takedown procedures in order to control the offender.

Equihua also had an outstanding warrant on DUI charges and was later verified as a member of the Manic Latin Disciples street gang.

Got a handgun? Go to jail

Police arrested 20-year-old Roderrick Sims, of the 1300 block of North Hudson Street, for unlawful possession of a handgun on the afternoon of May 6.

Responding to a call reporting a man selling drugs in the 900 block of North Cambridge Street in the Cabrini-Green rowhouses, police approached Sims, who at the time had an outstanding warrant, and detained him after a short foot chase.

During a pat-down search, officers allegedly found a loaded .25 caliber handgun on Sims, who said that he carried the gun for protection.

Jewelry pilfered from hotel

A Virginia woman reported $4,000 worth of jewelry stolen from her hotel room sometime during the evening of May 7.

The victim told police that she and her husband returned to their hotel in first block of East Chestnut Street late that evening to find that a pair of diamond hoop earrings and a pearl necklace were missing from the room.

Hotel staff said that there were no surveillance videos available for the room, but stated that someone had used the keycard for their room at around 10:30 p.m. The victim said she had no knowledge of anyone else accessing the room.

Unlawful punching of windows

At around 3:30 a.m. on May 7, a 73-year-old man on the 1200 block of North Astor Street answered his doorbell to find an intoxicated man, allegedly David P. Shaaf of 750 N. Dearborn St., standing at his door.

The man told Shaaf, 25, that he didn’t know him and he wasn’t going to let him in the house, to which the offender replied by punching out a glass window on the front door. Shaaf then fled, but was picked up later by a beat officer who returned him to the scene for identification before being detained.

This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 18th District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
