Cops cuff phone thief

A man was walking near the 100 block of E. Grand April 26 at 3:20 p.m. talking on his cell phone, when another man approached, shoved him in the back and snatched his cell phone. The man fled east on Grand and the victim gave chase. Police officers on a nearby patrol noticed the victim chasing the offender east on Illinois near Rush and they also gave chase. They stopped the offender at 161 E. Illinois and recovered the victim’s phone.
Man assaulted by gang
A man was walking in the 1200 block of N. Clark April 24 at 8:15 p.m. when a large group of men approached and started punching him in the face and body. Police arrived on the scene and placed the offenders in custody and transported them to the 18th District police station. The victim refused medical attention.
Thief robs cell phone store
A man entered a cell phone store in the 2000 block of N. Clybourn April 24 at 5:58 p.m. cut the cables from some demo phones, grabbed the phones and exited the store. As the store manager approached the thief, he pulled out a can of mace and threatened to spray her. He then fled north through a parking lot.
Man robbed near Brown Line
A man was walking in the 1500 block of N. Sedgwick April 23 at 3:40 p.m. when another man approached and said “Give me all your s---,” and removed the victim’s iPhone and wallet. The offender punched the victim in the face and his body causing redness, swelling and lacerations. Police arrived and secured the offender on a nearby CTA Brown Line platform and transported him to the 18th District police station.
Woman assaulted and battered by homeless woman
A woman was walking on the 1300 block of N. Sedgwick April 23 at 7:05 a.m. when a homeless woman approached and asked for money. The woman refused, so the homeless lady punched her in the face. A few days later, the woman was walking in the same neighborhood and the homeless lady approached her again and started yelling. The victim reported the incident because she was fearful of another battery. Police advised the victim to secure a restraining order.
Man beaten, robbed on Red Line
A man got on a CTA Red Line train April 20 at 4:35 p.m. Three other men got on at the same time and watched the man as they rode. As the train stopped at State and Grand, the men followed the guy as he got up to exit, and snatched his iPod Touch from his hand. One of the men punched the victim in his face and they all fled.
Robber takes electronics haul
A woman returned to her apartment on the 1600 block of N. Cleveland April 20 at 10:48 p.m. and discovered someone had pried her front door open and removed more than $3,000 of electronics including her TV, computer and digital camera.
Thief bites retail clerk
A man entered a store in the 100 block of E. Oak April 20 at 1:30 p.m., grabbed six designer handbags and tried to exit the store. A clerk tried to stop the offender and a struggle ensued. After a few minutes of pushing and shoving, the offender bit the clerk on his right forearm and scratched him on the side of the mouth. The offender escaped with three handbags, but was detained by a witness in a nearby alley. Police arrived, arrested the man and charged him with attempted theft.
Business busted up, burgled
A woman arrived at her place of employment in the 2000 block of N. Clybourn April 20 at 8:45 a.m. and noticed the lower pane of glass on the business’s front door busted. She called 911 and entered the premises with a police officer, where she found a baseball-sized rock sitting in the foyer that was used to shatter the glass. After a search of the place, she discovered that the thief had opened two cash registers and removed approximately $300. Nothing else seemed missing from the business. The business had a security alarm, but it did not sound. Police dusted for fingerprints and recovered a partial print from a key used to open one of the cash registers.
