Man whacked with bat

Two men were walking down the street near the 1700 block of N. Marcey April 7 at 3:05 a.m. after leaving a bar when they were approached from behind by two other men. The guys who approached yelled, “Where you guys from?” and then produced an aluminum baseball bat and demanded money. The victims responded that they didn’t have any. One of the offenders then hit one of the victims with the bat in his lower back. The other offender went through the victim’s pants pockets and removed his iPhone and credit cards and fled.
Thief makes off with appliances
A woman returned to her residence in the 300 block of W. Oak April 12 at 11:20 a.m. and found that someone had broken in to her apartment by climbing through the window. She surveyed her home and found her radio, toaster, coffee machine, DVD player, boots and fur coat missing.
Fake officer takes cash
A man was standing near the 1100 block of N. LaSalle April 6 at 11:25 a.m. when another man approached him, said that he was an undercover police officer and he needed help with a case. The fake officer led the man behind a church and demanded the man’s wallet. The victim gave his wallet to the offender who took $50 and returned it. The offender fled through an alley.
Bank robber nabbed
A man entered a bank in the 800 block of N. State April 6 at 4:45 p.m. and said, “This is a robbery. Give all your hundreds.” The man took money from a teller and fled the bank. He was apprehended near the entrance of the State and Chicago Red Line. Police searched the man and found currency stained with red dye in his pockets. The offender had a home monitoring device on his left ankle and a minor burn on his right thigh from the exploding dye pack.
Cash register grab
An employee returned to a restaurant where he worked in the 2100 block of N. Clybourn April 7 at 9:40 a.m. and found someone had broken the glass on the bottom of the restaurant’s front door. The employee entered and discovered the cash register had been ripped from its mount. Police reviewed security camera footage from that night and found footage of a man breaking in through the front door, ripping the register from the counter, and fleeing north on Clybourn.
Man jacked outside bar
A man had been drinking at a bar near the 100 block of W. Division April 11 around 3 a.m. when he walked into an alley to smoke a cigarette. Three men approached. One displayed a knife and said, “Hey, what’s up?” “How you doing?” and “You know you’re going to give us your s—.” The offenders then took the victim’s cell phone and wallet and pushed him to the ground. Then they took his jacket, jeans, belt and shoes before fleeing. The victim was walking around in his boxer shorts and socks. He eventually found his way to a CTA station where an employee gave him a sweatshirt and pair of jeans. A nearby security agent called police. The victim was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he secured footwear and cash for a train ride home.
Woman witnesses attack
A woman entered her building in the 2000 block of N. Bissell April 7 at 6:42 p.m. and noticed a man in the doorway smoking a cigarette. She was in her residence when she heard a loud bump sound, looked out window and saw a man dragging the person who had been smoking a cigarette out to the street and beating him. The offender, who had some kind of cast on his right hand, then fled into a tan Oldsmobile and left the scene. The woman called police, who transported the man to Illinois Masonic Hospital for treatment for knife wounds. Some cannabis was also recovered at the scene.
Apartment burgled
A woman returned home to her apartment located in the 900 block of W. Belden April 10 at 12:15 a.m. and found her front door, which had been locked, open. She said that $2,725 worth of electronics, including a laptop, iPod, and digital camera, had been stolen.
