Woman parties, gets robbed

A woman left her apartment in the 700 block of N. Wells April 5 at 8:15 p.m. to go to a party with some friends. When she returned a few hours later, she noticed that her computer was missing from her apartment. There were no signs of forced entry, but she told police she remembered leaving her back door open.

Tanning center robbery

A woman was working in the lobby of a tanning center located in the 1200 block of N. LaSalle April 2 at 4:20 p.m. when a man came in, started yelling, and demanded $23. The man then said, “I’ll be right back. I have a tow truck.” The woman, fearing for her safety gave the money to the offender when he returned. The man fled. Police could not locate him.

Woman robbed at gunpoint

A woman was walking near the 100 block of W. Ontario March 30 at 5:30 p.m., when a man approached her from behind, stuck a hard object into the base of her spine and said, “You know what this is. Give me what you got!” The woman, believing the object to be a handgun, gave the man a gold ring valued at $1,000, $60 cash and identification.

Man busted with illegal gun

Police received a call about a suspicious man wearing a white shirt, black vest and jeans standing near the 1200 block of N. Cleveland March 30 at 9:25 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, officers approached the man. They ordered the man to get on the ground and during a search found a gun with a 4” barrel inside the man’s vest. During an interview, the suspect said he bought the pistol and was carrying it on him because he was going to get additional ammo.

Taking it to the cleaners

A man entered a dry cleaner in the 700 block of W. Belden March 31 at 2:40 p.m. and asked a clerk how much it would cost to clean his pants. As the clerk answered, the man jumped behind the counter and put a knife to the stomach of the clerk and demanded money. She told the offender money was in a nearby cash register and she went around the offender to open the drawer. The offender started grabbing money. The man then pointed the knife at the clerk again and demanded her rings. An employee emerged from a back room and asked what all the noise was about. The offender dropped some of the money, and fled down an alley.

Man steals bike, gets caught

A man was leaving his residence in the 300 block of W. Oak March 31 at 7:35 a.m. when another man approached and said, “That’s my bike.” The first man said, “No, it’s not.” The second man pushed the first man off the bike and fled to a building nearby, taking the bike. Police arrived and followed the offender. They found him in the nearby building and arrested him, at which point the offender said, “I can get you the bike. It’s on the 5th floor.” Police relocated to the 5th floor and recovered the bike from a hallway. They then arrested the thief.

Woman, kids savagely attacked

A woman told police she was with her children near the 900 block of N. Hudson April 1 at 10:30 p.m. when three women approached her and one of them asked, “Did you call police on me?” The first woman (with her children) allegedly replied, “Get the f— out of my face.” The other woman then started punching her in the face. A second offender grabbed the victim’s arms. A third offender picked up a bottle and hit the victim in the head. The victim told her daughter to call 911. The first offender grabbed a cell phone from the daughter to prevent her from making the call, then picked up a broken piece of glass and started cutting the victim’s face and neck. The victim’s 9-year-old son tried to pull the first offender off his mom, but the offender punched him, causing swelling and bruising to his right eye. The offenders continued attacking the victim, and the third offender pulled out pepper spray. She sprayed the victim and then all the offenders fled. Police arrived, but could not locate the offenders. During an investigation of the crime, the victim told police the first offender had been named in a major accident investigation where the victim had been run off the road, lost consciousness and was hospitalized.
