Phone theft on CTA

A woman boarded a CTA train near the 1200 block of N. Clark March 29 at 10 a.m. and noticed a man on the train being loud and disruptive. The man sat down in front of her, so she moved to another seat. The offender moved and sat in front of her again. The woman was frightened, so she pulled out her cell phone to call police. The offender said, “You’re not calling police on me.” He snatched her phone and exited the train at North and Clybourn. She reported the incident to a CTA official standing on the platform who advised her to continue to the Fullerton stop for assistance. Police did not locate the offender.
Yoga studio robbed
The owner of a yoga studio located in the 200 block of W. Chicago noticed the iron gate protecting the front of his business was missing on March 28 at 7:57 a.m. The owner toured the shop and discovered a lock box and $500 missing.
Old flame won’t stop
On March 28, a woman who lives in the 400 block of N. McClurg reported that a man she knew from high school was continuously calling her and leaving text messages on her cell phone. She believes the man had hopes of starting an ongoing relationship with her but the police report said she has repeatedly informed the man that she has no interest in him.
Car break-in
A man parked his car in the 1900 block of N. Clark March 27 at 3:55 p.m. When he returned to his car a few hours later he discovered someone had busted his rear passenger window and taken a laptop, a passport, miscellaneous credit cards, his wallet and a leather bag.
Theft from a taxi
A taxi driver told police someone had broken in to a cab he leases through the rear passenger side vent window on March 27 at 9 a.m. while it was parked in the 1700 block of N. Clark. The offender had taken the man’s bag, miscellaneous credit cards, $40 and his City of Chicago Chauffeur’s license.
Early morn purse robbery
A woman was walking in the 100 block of W. Schiller March 23 at 6:50 a.m. when a man jumped out of a white mini-van, pushed her against a building wall, took her purse, and fled. The $150 purse contained $40 cash and miscellaneous credit cards. Police arrived and toured the area, but could not locate the offender.
Man tries to hide flat-screen
A security agent for a building located in the 300 block of N. State noticed a man with a goatee wearing a burgundy and gray jacket walk in his building March 27 at 3:45 a.m. and place a 32” flat0screen television behind a large planter in the lobby. As the man fled, the security agent noticed the man also had a black backpack full of alcohol. Police arrived and secured the television.
Man leaving bar beaten
A man told police he was out drinking all night and left a bar in the 1000 block of N. State March 27 at around 2 a.m. The man said he had walked about two blocks when a bunch of men struck up a conversation with him and put their hands on him. One of the men pulled out the guy’s wallet and asked where his money and credit cards were. The victim told the men he didn’t have a credit card. One of the men punched him in the stomach. As he was on the ground, they started kicking him in the stomach and ribs. Another one of the offenders took $30 from his pockets and they all fled. Police arrived on the scene to find the man on the ground, heavily intoxicated. Officers transported him to Northwestern Hospital for treatment.
Out of towner robbed
A man left a hotel in the 600 block of N. Rush March 24 at 1:50 a.m. and walked north on Ontario, where he was approached by a man who asked for a dollar. The man told the beggar he didn’t have any money and was then swarmed by two other men who went through his pockets and took his wallet and his cell phone. Some of the contents of the wallet spilled on the sidewalk, so the man was able to recover some of his credit cards. The offenders fled. Police did not locate them.
