The dog knew

A woman was watching television in her apartment in the 2100 block of N. Halsted Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. when her dog started barking loudly. The dog walked toward the back door in her kitchen and started sniffing at it. The woman noticed the door was open and unlocked, so she dead-bolted it and went to bed. When she woke up and got ready for work, she realized her laptop valued at $1,000 and her Louis Vuitton purse worth $1,000 were missing from her kitchen. The woman changed her locks and notified police.
Woman stabbed, jacket stolen
A woman was walking her dog in the 100 block of E. Huron Jan. 24 at 11:35 p.m. when a man jumped out of the bushes with a switchblade. The offender seemed like he was trying to take her dog but then he cut the woman in the stomach and upper right thigh. The offender then struck the woman in the ribs with his fist. The man then took her red Ugg brand jacket valued at $800 and $20 in cash. The offender fled in an unknown direction. Police could not locate him.
iPod forcibly removed from train rider
A man was riding a CTA Red Line train near the 1200 block of N. Clark Jan. 21 at 7:31 p.m. when another man approached and said, “Give me your iPod or I’m gonna pull out my gun.” The victim responded, “No.” The offender started hitting the iPod owner in the side of the head with his fist. He then forcibly removed the iPod and earphones from the victim and started switching train cars. The victim followed the offender who turned around and said, “I’m gonna knock your ass out.” The victim exited the train at Clark and Division and called police.
Huge haul stolen from Benz
A woman parked her 2000 Mercedes Benz on the 100 block of E. Ohio Jan. 21 at 6:20 p.m. When she returned to the car two hours later she noticed her rear window broken and a $2,000 laptop, $500 in electronics, $3,500 worth of jewelry and $300 cash missing.
Change jars stolen in burglary
A man returned to his home on the 100 block of W. Chicago Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m. and found the lights on in his apartment and the rear kitchen window open. He walked through the apartment and found two change jars containing $60 missing. The man told police he mistakenly left the door unlocked. Police dusted the door for fingerprints.
Woman mugged while parking
A woman was pulling her car in to her garage located on the 1300 block of N. La Salle Jan. 20 at 6:10 p.m. when she noticed an older homeless man in the nearby alley. As she parked, the man ran in to the garage, yanked her door open and pulled her out of the vehicle. The woman screamed as the man pushed a gun at her, threw her to the ground and said, “Shut up or I’ll kill you.” The offender made the woman remove her coat and jewelry and took her cell phone, garage door opener and keys. He left the woman on the floor, closed the garage door and fled. Police arrived, toured the area, but did not locate the offender.
Phone theft foiled
A woman was standing on the CTA Red Line Platform in the 900 block of W. Fullerton Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. when a man approached and tried to take her cell phone out of her hand. She wouldn’t let it go, so the man punched her in the back of the head and fled. The woman retained her phone and refused medical attention when police arrived. Police could not locate the offender.
Noise dispute gets ugly
Some female residents of an apartment building located in the 1400 block of N. Sedgwick were playing loud music Jan. 19 at 1:07 a.m. A female neighbor complained to security. The residents playing music approached the apartment of the woman who complained and yelled at her for calling security. They then punched the woman and pushed her to the ground. The mother of the victim tried to get the offenders off her daughter and sprayed them with pepper spray; she also cut one of the offenders with a knife. Police arrived. Both parties signed complaints and the mother and the neighbors were both arrested.
