Robbery victim fights back

A woman was walking to her vehicle parked in the 1500 block of N. Dayton Jan. 17 at 3:08 a.m. when a man in a black-and-white checkered sweater and gray, hooded sweatshirt came up from behind and began pulling her hair and punching her. The offender demanded her phone. He continued to strike the victim in the face and body, while an accomplice stood near by and said, “Get her. Get her.” Though she sustained a laceration to her forehead and right wrist, the woman eventually fought off the offenders, who then fled to a waiting vehicle. The victim snapped a photo of the fleeing car and gave it to police as evidence.

Jerk uses BMW to attack revenue worker

An employee for the Chicago Department of Revenue noticed a 2004 BMW illegally parked with multiple outstanding citations in the 600 block of N. Clark Jan. 15 at 11:43 p.m. The revenue employee started booting the car, but didn’t notice that the driver was in it. As he attached the boot, the driver allegedly struck the revenue employee in the knees with his car four times. The vehicle then fled west on Ontario. Policed toured the area, but did not locate the offender

Office burglary

A man arrived at his workplace in the 400 block of N. La Salle Jan. 18 at 8:45 a.m. and noticed the front doors kicked in. He searched the office and found a briefcase missing from a file cabinet in his office. Several drawers were open, but nothing else seemed missing.

Robber uses razor

A woman was exiting the subway in the 700 block of N. Wabash Jan. 16 at 12:25 p.m. when she noticed she was being followed by a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black wool coat. The man punched her in the head and took $10 from her hand by slicing it with a razor blade multiple times. The offender fled west on Chicago Avenue. The victim was transported to Northwestern Memorial hospital for treatment.

Rush restaurant rumble

A man was asked to leave a restaurant in the 1000 block of N. Rush Jan. 17 at 9:27 p.m. because he was being verbally hostile to patrons and staff. After he refused, an off-duty police officer identified himself and asked the man to leave. The abusive customer finally walked away, but returned a short time later and started yelling at the officer and then punched him. The officer called 911 and then tried to detain the offender, but the offender bit him in the chest and tried to grab the officer’s gun. Police back-up arrived to arrest the offender.

Robber takes money from tip jar

A cashier was taking orders at a coffee shop located in the 1000 block of W. Armitage Jan. 17 at 6:42 p.m. when a man approached, asked for change for the bus and presented a $10 bill. The man then asked how much a small coffee was and ordered one. As the woman working the register turned to get the coffee, the man said, “I have a gun. Give me the money in the register.” The man pointed a gun at the woman and she gave him an unknown amount of money in various denominations. The man also grabbed the bills out of a tip jar on the counter and fled. Police arrived in response to a triggered hold-up alarm, but did not catch the offender.

Snow blower stolen

A woman left her house in the 1800 block of N. Freemont Jan. 17 at 3:28 p.m. and accidentally left her garage door open. When she returned a few hours later, she noticed her snow blower was missing.

Man robbed after ATM withdrawal

A man withdrew $150 from a bank branch in the 100 block of W. Chestnut Jan. 15 at 8:20 p.m., walked out and noticed he was being followed by two men. One of the men approached him and said “Give me the money.” The victim responded, “I will give you the money. Just leave me alone.” The victim handed over his wallet to the offender who removed cash and threw the wallet on the sidewalk. The men fled. The victim returned to the bank and notified security of the robbery, and said he believes one of the offenders lives in his residential building. Police arrived, toured the area, but did not locate the offenders.
