Biz burglars

Police responded to a burglary alarm at a business located in the 800 block of W. North Jan. 11 at 2:35 p.m. and noticed a front window shattered and a large brick lying in the front of the store. Computers and various pieces of electronic equipment were scattered around inside. A laptop was missing. Police notified the owners of the business.
Break-in on Belden
A man returned to his residence in the 500 block of W. Belden Jan. 10 at 3:52 p.m. and found someone had broken in through the front door and stole an iPod, a computer adapter, $50 and a couple of credit cards. The man cancelled his credit cards.
Chevy truck robbed
A man returned to his Chevy truck parked in the 1500 block of N. Clark at 10:35 a.m., and saw two men exiting his vehicle and fleeing south on Clark. The men got into a red Ford Explorer and drove away. The man checked his car and found his driver’s side lock broken, a checkbook and coins missing.
Man stabbed at club
A man was dancing at a club located in the 100 block of W. Hubbard Jan. 10 at 4:21 a.m. when he was stabbed in the right side of his neck. The man said he did not see the offender, nor did he know why he had been stabbed. The man was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment and was released in good condition with four stitches to the right side of his neck.
Father knows best
A man got in to an argument with a maintenance man for a building located in the 2200 block of N. Bissell Jan. 9 at 11:08 p.m. over snow removal. He then pointed a gun at the maintenance man and told him he would shoot him if he didn’t start performing his duties. The maintenance man called police, who arrived to arrest and charge the offender with aggravated assault. On further investigation police discovered the victim was the offender’s adopted son.
Jewelry ripped from home
A woman returned to her apartment in the 2300 block of N. Commonwealth Jan. 9 at 2:15 p.m. and discovered her television, her laptop, a queen-sized sheet and approximately $2,000 in jewelry missing. The woman said she didn’t know if she left her door accidentally unlocked but there were no signs of forced entry.
Man speeding with a gun
A man tried to elude police, but they finally pulled him over for speeding near the 150 block of W. Division Jan. 9 at 2:05 a.m. Police discovered the driver had a suspended license, and was placed under arrest. There were two other passengers in the car, neither of whom could produce a driver’s license. Police then discovered a loaded handgun between the driver’s and passenger’s seat. Officers arrested the passengers and transported them to the 18th District police station.
Near North carjack
A woman was sitting in the passenger seat of her car parked on the 400 block of W. Ontario Jan. 5 at 10:08 a.m. A man came up to her car, got in and said, “Get your ass out.” He said he had a gun. The victim exited her car and tried to grab her purse, but was told to leave it. The offender drove off with the car, a $600 purse, a $300 wallet, $110 cash and miscellaneous pieces of identification and credit cards. The woman was not injured, but she had chest pains and shortness of breath and was transported to Northwestern Memorial hospital for treatment.
Man shot in thigh
A man was walking near the 800 block of N. Mohawk Jan. 5 at 4:37 p.m. when he heard gunshots and noticed a numb feeling in his leg. The man realized he’d been shot, ran west on Chestnut and turned north on Cambridge where he collapsed. Two officers standing a few blocks away noticed the man, and radioed for an ambulance. The man told police he had no idea why anyone was shooting a gun, but did not believe he was the intended victim. Police spoke with witnesses who refused to give names but confirmed the gunshots. Police transported the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment. Officers toured the area, but did not locate any offenders.
