An elderly couple was the victim of a burglary at their home on the 2000 block of North Halsted Street the afternoon of Jan. 30. At around 2:45 p.m. that day, a 94-year-old man told police that a man had knocked on his patio door a few hours earlier, stating that he was there to take measurements for some “fence work.”

Robbers sweep River North bar

Thieves snuck in overnight between Jan. 16 and 17 and stole the ambiance from a bar in River North. On the afternoon of Jan. 17, police met with the owner of the Green Door Tavern, 678 N. Orleans St., who stated that sometime between that morning and the previous day thieves had entered the premises through a knocked-out basement window and stolen a collection of furnishings from the bar, including some antique liquor bottles and cigar boxes, an antique slot machine, stereo and TV equipment and several pieces of artwork.

Bank robber hits Gold Coast

On the afternoon of Jan. 9, police received a call of a reported bank robbery at a Gold Coast Chase Bank. Officers arriving at the bank, 1200 N. State Parkway., initially pulled over a car that was leaving the bank, but after conducting an interview they found that the driver was not involved in the incident.

Victim compromises with attackers

At around 4:00 a.m. on Jan. 1, a man was talking on his iPhone while standing outside on the 700 block of North Fairbanks Court when he was attacked by two young men. The offenders reportedly punched the man in the face and grabbed his phone, wallet and keys.

Bank robber escapes in taxi

A man who had just robbed a Lincoln Park bank made a clean getaway in a taxi on the morning of Dec. 20. Employees at the North Community Bank, 2335 N. Clark St., told police that at around 11:55 a.m. that day a man entered the bank and told one of one the tellers to give him money, supplementing the demand by sliding over a handwritten note which read “Now,” according to the teller.

Bank robber has second thoughts

Police responded to a burglary call at the North Community Bank at 2335 N. Clark St. on the afternoon of Dec. 9. Upon arrival, officers were told by staff at the bank that a man wearing a pink scarf and a hunter's cap entered the building at around 4:15 p.m. that day and handed the teller a note demanding money.
