Marj Abrams, 1924-2010

Marj Abrams had a way with words. The longtime Streeterville resident loved lingo, was a "stickler" for language and could be quite eloquent in her speech. But she wasn't afraid to dish out a little good-natured ribbing either. Abrams, renowned as the "Grande Dame" of Streeterville, died July 4 at age 85 from complications of chronic illness at her niece Jill LaVant’s home in Orland Park.

Demolition discussed for Bender home

Attorney says renovations would be too costly

With a potential sale on the horizon, the owners of a vacant home in Lincoln Park have asked residents for their support in a bid to demolish the building. Executors of the estate of the late musician and model Fred Bender have filed for a permit to demolish the two-unit home at the corner of Drummond Place and Racine Avenue where Bender lived until he passed away a year and a half ago.
