Thirty-seven bags of crack

Police arrested Dennis Djirackor of the 1600 block of West Greenleaf Avenue the afternoon of April 2 for possession of crack cocaine, among other charges. Djirackor, 31, was parked at a bus stop on the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue when two officers on bicycles approached the car to ask why he had stopped at that location.

Michele Smith looks to be the new alderman of the 43rd Ward, as she holds a short but secure lead after Tuesday’s run-off election for retiring Ald. Vi Daley’s seat in city council. With all but one of the ward’s precincts counted this morning, Smith, who currently serves as the North Side ward’s Democratic Committeeman, was winning the race with a total of 4,803 votes — just 220 more than her competitor, Tim Egan.

Rahm Emanuel’s new political committee has yet to make a play in the 43rd Ward aldermanic run-off, but candidates in the race are nonetheless reaping the rewards from the mayor-elect’s extended circle. In early March, Emanuel announced the formation of the New Chicago Committee, a political fund that he said was aimed at boosting candidates who would be conducive to the incoming administration’s “reform agenda.” Read more...
