ATM muggers on police radar

According to a Chicago Police Department news release, officers are on the lookout for individuals involved in three violent muggings at an ATM near the corner of Clark and Oak streets.

Surveillance video shows three men, one wearing a baseball hat and another wearing a do-rag style cloth on his head, attacking and robbing patrons in an indoor ATM room.

The incidents occurred between Sept. 11 and 19, with each attack taking place at 9 p.m. Anyone with information should contact Area 3 detectives.

Parking lot stick-up

At around 7 p.m. Nov. 11, a 35-year-old woman was walking to her car in a parking lot on the 900 block of North Kingsbury Street when she was approached by three unknown men who appeared to be about 17 years old. The trio surrounded her and one of the offenders said, “this is a stick-up, give us everything you have.”

One of the other two men then grabbed her purse, which contained a laptop, iPhone and $400 in cash, and the group fled.

Phone thief at train station

A woman told police that she was waiting on the train platform at the North/Clybourn CTA Red Line station on the afternoon of Nov. 11 when a man snuck up, grabbed her iPhone from her hand and ran out of the station, fleeing eastbound on North Avenue. The police report listed the phone as being valued over $500.

Man grabs iPad

On the morning of Nov. 11, a woman was using her iPad while riding on a CTA Red Line train when a man came up and snatched the device from her before fleeing from the train at the Clark/Division stop. The victim was later able to wipe the contents of the computer from another computer, but police and employees at an Apple store were unable to track the location because the tablet’s WiFi had been turned off.

Park sign vandalized

An employee of the Chicago Park District told police that someone vandalized the Cowardly Lion plaque located in Oz Park near the 2000 block of North Burling Street sometime around the afternoon of Oct. 24. The employee stated that the offender etched gang symbols into the sign.

Man exposes himself to child in Lincoln Park

A mother in Lincoln Park told police that a man exposed himself to her daughter on the afternoon of Nov. 4.

The girl was apparently walking home from school on the 2000 block of North Lincoln Avenue at around 4:15 p.m. when she observed the offender, a white Hispanic man believed to be in his thirties, with his pants down and his genitals exposed.

The mother relayed that several other students at her daughter’s school have claimed to have witnessed the same incident in the area.

Home break-in

A man living on the 1400 block of North Orleans Street reported a break-in robbery at his home that occurred during the day on Nov. 8.

The man came home that evening to find that the front door of his apartment had been forced open, and found that several items belonging to his roommate had been stolen, including a 50-inch Samsung TV, two laptop computers, a digital camera and a camcorder.

Rifle stolen from garage

A man told police that upon returning home from a vacation to find that a rifle had been taken from his home garage on the 2100 block of North Bissell Street.

The victim, 72, returned home from Wisconsin on the evening of Nov. 6 to find his garage door open and the following items missing: a dissembled long-barrel rifle, a bag of quarters and various tools valued at a total of $100.

The man did not have any information available on the gun when he spoke to police, and officers advised him to contact the city’s gun registration office to report the incident.

The victim told police that he had been away from the house since Oct. 27, adding that he had known the garage door to sometimes open on its own.
