Apologetic thief

Police arrested a 50-year old man identified as a suspect in two separate burglaries on the night of August 30. The first break-in, at the office of an ad agency on the 500 block of N. Clark, occurred around 9:30 p.m. Upon entering the premise, the man was spotted by an employee of the firm who was working late that evening. Startled, the offender apologized and left. About half an hour later, a neighbor witnessed the same man breaking a glass door and entering an office building on the 400 block of W. Erie. The man left the property with a laptop and a locked box and was soon after apprehended by police who were responding to the burglary call. The man, who had several past burglary convictions on his record, was detained and later treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for cuts on his hand.
Knocked over
At around 3 a.m. on August 22, a man was attacked and robbed after leaving a concert venue on the 300 block of N. Dearborn. The assailant, believed to be in his early- to mid-thirties, approached the victim from behind, knocking him down and stealing his cell phone and wallet, which contained $20 cash and various cards. In a report filed eight days later, the victim told police that the suspect had made $300 in purchases with his Visa card.
Classic mugging
A 56-year old man walking along the 200 block of E. Lake Shore Drive was mugged by three unidentified suspects on the evening of August 28. The man told police that two of the men walked by him as the third approached him from the other side, stating: “Give me all your cash. I’ll shoot you in the f****** face.” The man complied and handed over $200 in cash to the suspects, who then fled.
Unlocked door
A man from Texas was sitting in his rental car on the 600 block of N. Rush at around 4 a.m. when a man and a woman entered his car and asked him for money. When the man said he didn’t have any money, the two directed him to a nearby ATM and said they would leave the car if he gave them $100. The victim took out the money and gave it to the suspects, who then stole his wallet and fled. The man went to the hotel he was staying to cancel his bank cards, but the suspects had already withdrawn $1000 from various ATM locations.
Armed robbery
In the early morning of August 26, a woman riding her bike on the lakefront bike path was accosted and robbed by a man near the 700 block of N. Lake Shore Drive. The man, believed to be in his mid-twenties, stood in the way of the woman while she rode and told her to stop. Believing that the man was joking, she tried to pass him, at which point the man pointed a silver handgun at her and demanded that she give him her purse. The woman got off the bike and pushed it at him and began screaming, while the man and another unidentified suspect got on the bike and rode away.
This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 18th District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
