Slack attack on Division

A 63-year old man told police that he was robbed on the evening of July 23 on the 200 block of W. Division. The man said that the alleged offender, known by people in the neighborhood as “Slack,” approached from behind, placed his forearm around the man’s neck and said, “You be still, pop.” The offender then fled with the man’s belongings, which included a wallet with $10 cash and various I.D. cards.

Stolen wine

Upon returning home in the late afternoon of July 27, a man living on the 1700 block of N. Sheffield found that his garage door had been pried open and that a dozen bottles of wine and a cooler were missing.

Phone cut during invasion

A woman on the 300 block of W. Evergreen told police that her home had been entered by an unknown suspect in the early hours of July 29. She believed that the offender had entered through a side window but quickly fled through the patio door after the alarm went off. She also relayed that her home phone was not working, and officers found that the phone box on the side of the house had been removed and that several wires had been cut.

Black eye on Halsted

Two men from Skokie told police that they were walking on the 2000 block of N. Halsted at 2:00 a.m. on July 31 when a group of young men approached them and asked which street gang they were with. One man from the group of young men then punched one of the Skokie men in the eye. The three men fled and the victim’s friend drove him to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

You talking to me

A man told police that a taxi driver punched him in the face several times after the two became engaged in a verbal altercation on the 100 block of E. Walton on the afternoon of July 31. The man alleged that the offender tried to pull him from his car and spit on his face before driving away.

Man shot

On the afternoon of July 31, police responded to a call of shots fired near a public housing property on the 1200 block of N. Burling. Upon arrival, officers found that a 25-year old man had suffered a bullet wound in his right-upper back. The man managed to get the lobby of a nearby building by the time police arrived, and was transported to Northwestern Hospital where he was held overnight for treatment. Police interview security officers on the property, who said that they heard the shots but did not see a shooter.

Robbery turns to assault

A man told police that he was approached by a two men in a car on the 400 block of W. Grand at 2:30 on August 1. The man said that the suspects demanded that he give them all his money, to which he responded “You ain’t getting my money.” One of the suspects then struck the man on the head with a beer bottle and the assailants fled. The man called an ambulance and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Unrecorded robbery

An employee at a clothing store on the 2000 block of N. Halsted told police that during the afternoon of August 1, two men entered the store and demanded all the money in the cash registers. One of the men repeatedly shook his hand in his pocket, emphasizing that he had a gun, as the woman put $250 into two plastic bags and gave them to the robbers. The store did not have a security camera and police were unable to locate the suspects.

Fake cabby robs man

At 3:30 a.m. on August 1, a man leaving a bar on the 1200 block of N. Clark flagged down and entered what he thought was a taxi cab. Upon entering the car, an unknown suspect pulled a gun and told the man to give him money. The victim stated the he didn’t have any money, so the offender took the man’s iPhone and debit card and dropped him off at a gas station.
