Jewelry store hit on Wells

Witnesses told police that around 2:05 p.m. July 12 three men entered a jewelry store in the 700 block of N. Wells and lifted up the display glass in one of the cases. The suspects, estimated to be in their late thirties, took several items, including pearl earrings, a diamond necklace, a diamond ring and other pieces of jewelry, with a total value of $18,900. Two witnesses attempted to lock the doors to stop the men from leaving but were pushed out of the way. The men fled in separate directions and some witnesses pursued them on foot.

Laptop taken, part I

A female employee of an entertainment company in the 1900 block of N. Clybourn told police that the building had been broken into on July 2 and that suspects had taken a laptop valued at $2,500. The woman said that the alarm had been set off and that the alarm company had contacted her at home, telling her that the ground floor was secure and that she did not need to come to the scene. Police found pry marks on the deadbolt lock on the entrance of the suite.

Laptop taken, part II

The owner of a recording company in the 200 block of E. Ohio reported that a laptop valued at $1,000 was stolen from the property sometime in the early morning of July 3. The victim told police that the suspect also damaged the front door when entering the building.

Man flees with Rolex on wrist

At 1:10 p.m. July 7, a man entered a jewelry store in the 1800 block of N. Clybourn and asked to try on a gold Rolex watch. The suspect put on the watch, valued at $8,000, and fled the store. Another man who had entered at the same time also ran and was apprehended by police. He told officers that he was unaware that the man, nicknamed “Peas,” was there to steal a watch, and that he ran because he was scared. Police let the man go and advised the store owner to keep security tapes for an investigation.

Food worker robbed at gunpoint

On July 9, a 26-year old man was robbed at gunpoint at 5:25 in the morning while on his break outside of the fast food restaurant where he works in the 300 block of N. Dearborn. The victim told police that the suspect approached him with a .38 caliber snub-nose handgun and demanded all of his money. The victim gave him $400 in cash from his pocket and the suspect fled.

Computer nabbed in burglary

A woman told police that someone had broken into the apartment that she was subletting in the 400 block of W. Belden sometime between July 10 and July 11. Upon arriving home, she found one of the windows unlocked and reported that a computer valued at $1,500 had been taken.

Break-in at school

A man told police on July 11 that unknown suspects had broken into a school in the 1400 block of N. Ogden. The suspects punched out windows on the side of the building, entering the premises and removing two handicap-accessible tricycles. The suspects left behind the bikes before exiting the school.

iPhone taken in attack

A 38-year-old woman was attacked by a man while she was talking on her phone in the 100 block of E. Erie at 11:40 a.m. July 12. The suspect asked the woman for the time, then grabbed her iPhone and let her hand go, causing her to hit herself in the face.

iThieves strike on Michigan

Around 7 p.m. July 12, a man standing on the sidewalk in the 500 block of N. Michigan was approached by two men, one of whom grabbed his iPhone from his hand before both fled. The man chased the two suspects and grabbed one of them, but the other pushed him away and they escaped.

Yet another iPhone nabbed

A woman had her iPhone stolen while she walked in the 600 block of N. Rush around 9:24 p.m. July 12. The victim told police that a man in his mid-twenties, wearing a red baseball hat, ran up from behind her and grabbed the phone from her hand before running away.
