At around 2:30 a.m. on April 8, three unknown suspects, armed with handguns and brass knuckles, entered an apartment building on the 1200 block of North La Salle Boulevard and held the occupants — five men and a woman — at gun point while they looted the home.
At the beginning of the robbery, the offenders attacked two of the male victims with the weapons. The suspects took several thousands of dollars worth of items from the home, including a $3,500 computer and a Louis Vuitton backpack valued at $1,500, before driving away in a tan four-door sedan.
After the suspects left, one of the victims accused Taylor Robinson, who was in the home during the incident, of being involved in the plot, noting that he had exited the apartment just before the robbery and may have left the door unlocked to allow the perpetrators entry into the building.
The victims told police that the 21-year-old Robinson, of the first block of East 8th Street, responded to the accusation by leaving out of the third floor window of the apartment, climbing down the building and then fleeing toward a nearby apartment.
Police located Robinson on the street and interviewed him, then brought him back to the scene, where one of the victims allegedly produced a security tape that showed Robinson waiting outside for the offenders to arrive before re-entering the building. Robinson was arrested, and the two injured victims (who had suffered lost teeth from the attack) refused medical attention.
Flushing weed down the pot
Police arrested Anthony Stewart, 24, of the 500 block of West Delaware Place, after a raid on his house the night of April 9 allegedly turned up a stash of ready-to-sell cannabis.
On that evening, officers made a forced entry into the home with a warrant for Stewart, nicknamed “Ant.” Upon being warned by an occupant that police were entering the house, the suspect ran into the upstairs bathroom and attempted to flush a quantity of cannabis down the toilet, police said.
Police detained the suspect and were able to recover 28 baggies containing a total of 31.3 grams of the substance, as well as $589 in cash found in Stewart’s pockets. A police report on the arrest states that Stewart is a member of the Gangster Disciples gang.
Fare-jumper busted
Police arrested a 17-year-old boy after a plainclothes officer witnessed him follow a paying customer through the turnstiles at the CTA’s Chicago Avenue Red Line station. The incident occurred at 7:30 p.m. on April 9.
Robbed during a seizure
On the evening of April 9, a woman had just paid for her meal at the McDonald’s at the corner of State Street and Chicago Avenue when she went into a seizure. Upon gaining consciousness at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the 54-year-old woman found that she was no longer in possession of her purse, which was valued at $2,500 and contained $89 in cash and various IDs and bank cards.
Phone robber arrested
Police arrested Kevin Ward, of the 2700 block of East 67th Street, in connection with a strong-armed robbery that occurred on the evening of April 5. A witness identified Ward, 24, as being part of a group of men who attacked a 28-year-old man on the 800 block of North Wabash Avenue.
The victim told police that the men tried to take his Android cell phone and when he resisted, they began hitting and kicking him, causing injury to his face and body. The offenders fled, and police picked up Ward while touring the area.
This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 18th District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
