Police arrested Taurean Marshall, of the 400 block of west 56th Street, after they allegedly saw him jump a turnstile at the Chicago Avenue CTA Red Line station the evening of February 12. Upon conducting a search, officers found that Marshall, 20, was carrying a BB gun painted to look like a semi-automatic handgun. The offender told the officers that the weapon belonged to his cousin.
Cabbie gets gassed
On the evening of February 12, a man was filling up his tank at a gas station on the 100 block of W. Chicago when a disgruntled cab driver pulled into the lot and yelled, “Learn how to drive, you’re blocking the pumps.” The driver went on to make threats of violence toward the man, who then got in his car and began to drive away when the cabbie got out and started stabbing at his tires with a folding knife. The victim and a passenger in the car watched as the man beat on the side of the car with his fist and at one point opened one of the doors before getting back in his cab, which reportedly contained a fare passenger, and drove away.
Still looking for a good time
Police arrested Jasmine Cooper, 21, and Felicia Anderson, 22, for solicitation of sex on the 200 block of West Ontario Street early the morning of Feb. 6.
Police said that the two offenders, both from Milwaukee, were driving up and down the block and pulling over to talk to men at around 2:30 a.m. on February 6. Having observed this practice in the area before, police curbed the vehicle and approached as Anderson got out of the car and began running northbound. She was quickly apprehended by two officers, and Cooper, the driver of the car, was placed under arrest at the scene as well.
35 bags of crack in Cabrini
A woman was arrested during a recent police raid on her Cabrini Green rowhouse when officers found 35 bags of crack cocaine. At around 9:00 p.m. on the evening of February 12, officers entered the home of Elizabeth Ellis, 51, on the 900 block of North Cambridge Avenue with a warrant for the arrest of Tyran Pratt, 19.
Pratt wasn’t at the home, but upon searching Ellis and the apartment, officers found approximately 35 small knotted plastic bags containing crack. Also found was a bond slip belonging to Pratt, who sometimes rents a room in her home, said Ellis.
Cash, shot glass stolen from souvenir shop
A man in his late 20s robbed a souvenir shop on the first block of East Ontario Street on the afternoon of February 14. An employee of the shop told police that the offender approached the counter and asked her if she was the only person working at the time.
She indicated that she was, and the man then put his hands in his pockets and said “I have a gun and I don’t want to have to use it,” ordering her to hand over all the money in the shop’s register.
The employee handed over some small bills and a roll of quarters, totaling $100, and the offender grabbed a souvenir shot glass before fleeing.
Fake Bears tickets bought off Craigslist
A woman was taken for $500 by a man who sold her a pair of phony Bears tickets on Craigslist. The victim told police that she met up with the offender, who she described as a 38-year-old Hispanic man, in front of a Gap store at 555 N. Michigan Ave. to make the transaction at around 11:20 a.m. on January 23. When she attended the game later that afternoon, a security scan revealed that the tickets were fakes.
This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 18th District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
