Huge jewelry heist

On Jan. 28 at 10 a.m., a man discovered more than $28,000 worth of jewelry missing from his master bedroom closet, in his home located in the 800 block of W. Webster. The man told police several workmen from several businesses have been doing repairs to his home.
Purse pilfered
A woman left a red purse on the back of a chair in a restaurant located in the 700 block of E. Grand Feb. 1 at 10:50 a.m. When she turned to pick it up, the purse, valued at $150, which held a $150 iPod and miscellaneous credit cards, was gone. The woman called to cancel her credit cards and found someone had made a purchase with one of them at a gas station in the 7500 block of S. State. An agent for the gas station said that security video for the gas station captured the man making the purchase. Police requested the tape for their investigation.
Man robbed at knifepoint
A man was walking near the 1200 block of N. Halsted Feb. 1 at 7:12 p.m. when another man approached him, placed a knife to his throat and reached into his pocket and took $101. The offender then pushed the victim and fled in a white 1999 Ford south on Halsted. Police arrived, but could not locate the man.
iPhone ripped during photo
A woman was taking a picture of the American Gothic statue at 400 N. Michigan Jan. 31 at 2:44 p.m. with her iPhone when an unknown person snatched the phone from her hands and ran down the stairs in front of the Chicago Tribune building to Lower Michigan Ave. Police arrived and toured the area, but did not locate the offender.
Man ‘wizzes’ on club
A man was entering an athletic club located in the 500 block of N. Kingsbury Jan. 27 and noticed another man spray painting the word “wizzer” in blue paint on the side of the club. Police arrived and took the man in to custody.
Unlocked house burgled
A woman left her house located in the 1200 block of N. Clark Jan. 28 at 10:14 a.m. The door to the home was left unlocked for the dog walker. When the woman returned she found her $3,000 laptop and $500 printer missing.
Intoxicated man robbed, beaten
A man flagged down police in the 1500 block of N. Fremont Jan. 30 at 3:50 a.m. and said that he’d been approached by three men who beat him, took his wallet and cell phone and fled in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. The victim appeared intoxicated, disoriented and slurred his speech. Police took him to Northwestern Hospital for treatment.
Man answers door, gets robbed
A man knocked on the door of a residence located in the 100 block of W. Huron Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. The owner of the home came to the door, and the man at the door pushed the owner, ran to the kitchen counter and took $140 cash and fled.
Man leaving bar beaten, robbed
A man left a bar in the 100 block of W. Division Jan. 28 at 2 a.m. and another man started following him, eventually stopping him and asking if he had any money. The man refused to talk to the beggar and kept walking west on Division. The beggar then grabbed his arm, spun the man around and punched him in the face. The victim fell to the ground and two more men approached and started beating him. One of the men took $30 from him and all of the offenders fled. The victim reported the incident at 9:35 a.m. the following morning. Police did not have any leads then.
Grocery customer gets irate
A regular customer at a grocery store located in the 2300 block of N. Clark entered the store on Jan. 30 at 3:30 p.m. approached a clerk, became hostile and told the man “He better watch his back.” The clerk did not know why the man approached him and said this, but he reported the incident to police fearing the victim might make good on his threat. Police toured the area, but did not locate the offender.
